Hello CAF! Do you hate some of the clothes your kids wear? Is it not appropriate?

Well everyone my name is Ed; some of you may know me, some of you may not. I am an ex-drug dealer who found God and is on the road to becoming a priest. (in a nutshell)

Anyway; I used to wear all this, basically, HORRIBLE clothing. I am now sick of it. I wanted to find some christian clothing. I found one AMAZING site. (No I am not paid by this website or anything; chill out) the website is called www.c28.com

All of the clothes are super amazingly cool. Only downside; they run a little small. Well I am asking YOU CAF; do you know any good stores/webstores to buy clothes? I would love a new catholic shirt. Also, buy your kids some shirts, they are pretty powerful.

Oh, yeah…the stuff is bad out there. But the biggest problem is, that the current fashion invloves wearing clothes that are :(too short,😦 too tight, & adorned with:mad: off-color messages.
My best friend is a fundamental Baptist who is spending her retirement helping her son to raise his children. The biggest problem is that the son’s ex-wife thinks it is “cute” to buy their about-to-be-teen daughter clothes that are all three. Grandma has to be the “heavy” and throws the ones that are just:eek::eek: nasty into the garbage, & passes on the teentsy things to smaller girls. (A very pretty size **9 **girl in a very short size 5??? :nope::nope:There are real size 5 people out there. Let them wear them!).

Ordinarily, I would direct you to the Rosary Army site to find a shirt that is both Christian and spiffy–I am drinking my tea from the matching mug as I type), but that little online store is currently closed. Try it later! (The money benefits Rosary Army’s apostolate of prayer, dedicated to putting rosaries into the hands of all who ask, at no cost. So you get a hidden benefit!!)
I believe that Leaflet Missal Companay sells some nice items on their site. Give it a try.🙂

Skulls are now anti catholic?

They are on vestments, used as reminders of our mortality.

If you want to get particular about clothing, tee shirts are adaptations of underclothes, infact, in some groups in the US and around the world tee shirts are still considered underwear.

are they really? Uhm…ok thanks for the info?..I didn’t know that…I actually own a couple of things with skulls on them, nothing devilish or even like bad, just looks like art…oops…😊

I was asking as a question - it is rather silly to think skulls are anti catholic or somehow wrong to wear as there are vestments decorated with skulls, they decorate Churches, the skull reminds us we are moral.

yeah I don’t have a problem with the little skulls, reminds me of Dia de los Muertos. I doubt the clothing manufacturers have that in mind, but it’s a good way to put a Catholic spin on it 👍

Thanks for the clothing ideas! and when I was a kid my parents would NEVER let me wear anything with skulls. Who knows, maybe it is just my family?! Haha

I learned long ago that what I think about clothing has zero effect on the fashion industry. Not only that, but it is especially treacherous territory to comment upon women’s clothing choices.

Nevertheless, surveying the landscape of both secular and Christian designs, I can’t help but wonder what ever happened to clothing which carries no messages at all.

Well, like everything it all depends on context, doesn’t it?

Skulls themselves aren’t necessarily anti-catholic, however it’s clear they have been adopted by a culture that celebrates evil and is fascinated with death.

I’m guessing anyone wearing skull-adorned clothes in today’s society isn’t expressing a reminder of mortality.

If you look at illustrations from children’s readers in the 1800’s there are plenty of sculls and other maccob drawings. Albeit its not on clothing. I’ve even seen alphabet boards with sculls. It wasn’t to be “cool” or morbid or anything but to remind children that death was close at hand. Infact if you read the scholastic book “real mother goose” you’ll see how engraned death and death symbols were in the culture.

Our culture, however, no longer retains the idea that death is outside of our control, turning a symbol of our mortality into a pop culture icon and turning our entire culture to one of death itself.

Are skulls appropriate on clothing? Probably not. But are clothing or other illustrations of skulls bad? Defiantly not.

phatmass.com a REALLY catholic site for teens recently came out with a tee with a skull-like gas-mask and the saying “fight moral reletavism” so it can convey a powerful message in the right channel.

I know what you mean. Recently, there was this weird fad… with Tshirts… reading… “Sinful” or something similar (see link).

Well, I don’t “get it”. Why would anyone want to convey that message? Why would anyone want others to think that THEY are promoting sin? And why would such a stupid fad even be out there?

Do they think it’s cool, or something? I don’t get it. 🤷

Our Lady told Blessed Jacinta… at Fatima… that fashions would be introduced, which would be very offensive to God. :nope:

Right, because skulls have become more symbols of the evil and fascination with death you mentioned among at least the society of the midwest in the US but likely elsewhere, too.

A better reminder of mortality is ashes or dust.

Or even a better reminder of mortality would be the obituaries or any news coverage of a recent death. All the money Michael Jackson had and he didn’t get to take one cent with him.

Perception becomes huge when dealing with clothing. It’s good to remember the clothes in themselves are not evil, it is the sinful thoughts they can stir up and the context of the situation as it relates to the clothing must be considered because you must at this time think on what others will think about your clothing.

Moderation in dress is a great sacrifice to be offered up actually.
