Yes, I understood what you asked. Please understand what I wrote. Here is an easier translation. What good is a Bible study if the interpretations are not guaranteed to be error free? The correct teaching is only available in the Catholic Church. All others teach falsely to some degree or another. So, you want quantity over quality? So, therefore, you ask the wrong question.

I do Bible Study, with the teachings of the Church. That’s the only way we know what God really teaches, whether via written or oral Tradition. By going to mass on Sunday, we have two Bible readings, a Psalm, and Gospel reading. Then, we have a homily ostensibly from one following correct Catholic teaching. Then we have valid and licit Sacrament of the most Holy Communion. Even if one does not do Bible study, one has the Catholic Church which does not teach falsely. What good is it to memorize Scriptures when one has false understanding of what they mean? Ideally, we have knowledge of Scriptures and knowing without error what they mean… come to the Catholic Church for this.
MDK,

When do you get to ask questions about the Scripture read? Is there a question and answer time allowed during Mass? :hmmm: Instead of a Bible Study or Adult Sunday School, you come to CAF? Would it not be benificial for you and your church family to have an Adult Sunday School? I am sure that you don’t believe you learned everything there is to know about God and the Roman Catholic Church at the time of your Confirmation. I think that you would be very surprised at how wonderful a good Bible Study would be for you and your Church family at your Church. Trust me, an Episcopalian is not going to win a Scripture Quoting Competition and that my friend is not what Bible study, or an Adult Sunday School,is all about.

Did you even read what I wrote? I said I do Scripture study. It is done with the official teachings of God’s infallible teaching Church to help me understand. I do ask questions of others in the Church, and the official answers are without error. No other church has this charism of infallibility.

The salient point is, no the Episcopal church is not guaranteed to be free from error when teaching in matters of faith and morals. In fact, there is unfortunately error taught in the Episcopal church. When you understand this, you will understand what I said. Until you do, you will simply deny the truth of what Christ established and what He taught. That doesn’t mean you have it completely wrong. However, how much error do you think the Church of Christ should teach? The obvious answer is none.

We know that what is taught is without error. What I’m saying to all Episcopalians is that to study erroneous interpretations of the meaning of Scriptures is far less valuable to the Christian than one Catholic mass. The value of the Catholic mass is incredible, and when you consider the incomparable gift of Christ of Himself in the Eucharist, it’s merit is incomparable.

Episcopalians do not understand fully the meaning of the Bible. This is not the Church built by Christ. There is no promise of protection or that the gates of hell will not prevail. Evidence is that the gates of hell have already prevailed against the Episcopal church.

Why do you still reject Christ by rejecting those whom He sent?

I read what you wrote about Scripture Study…

“By going to mass on Sunday, we have two Bible readings, a Psalm, and Gospel reading. Then, we have a homily ostensibly from one following correct Catholic teaching.”

I must tell you that I did get a chuckle at your remarks about attending one Roman Catholic Mass. Sorry, but you are wrong–I attend Roman Catholic Mass just about every week. How much information do you honestly think that the best Roman Catholic priest can give his flock in a 15 minute sermon? If you want to just listen with no further discussion with the body of believers–you have got it. The knowledge about Christ’s mission and His purpose on Earth that I get from my Sunday School Class, Wednesday Bible Class and our sermons runs cartwheels around a fifteen minute Sunday Homily. Honestly, it is sad that you seem so unwilling to devote more time in your Church for an Adult Sunday School or an Adult Bible Study. What is your fear? I am not telling you to go to another Church, but to get a Bible Study and an Adult Sunday School program in your parish. So many times on this forum I have read people say that Roman Catholics leave the Church because they do not know their faith. Well, teach them and stop complaining!

I don’t think that you want to go into the errors of the Roman Catholic Church on this post. There are enough post on this forum discussing the errors of the RCC.

On a broader note, I am not sure why you think you can question my faith so easily - if I did the same you would be offended and I would risk being banned from this board. I am continuously amazed that the best I get from some folks on this board is “I am Catholic, so I am right and you are wrong.” Is that the best you can do? You speak of denying the truth, but you are afraid to even consider some other points of view, because you might find that your “truth” isn’t.

I am blessed to have a personal relationship with Christ, and I trust that you are as well.

God Bless!

No, you really didn’t. When I had told you before (that you missed), the quote I was referring to was:

"I do Bible Study, with the teachings of the Church. That’s the only way we know what God really teaches, whether via written or oral Tradition."

I’ll explain once more that the teachings of the Church in the Catechism make the best Bible companion available. Scripture study with the Catechism of the Catholic Church is wonderful in that one will not be in error.

Glad you got a chuckle, but you apparently you got one through misunderstanding. It’s not surprising that those who believe what they want, rather than the truth given by Christ, will mock the truth and won’t understand.

What was stated was that there was more value in the mass… The learned person would understand that the explanatory sentence that followed gave the reason… to include the valid Eucharist, which was also explicitly stated. Wasn’t too hard to see, for those who have the habit of seeing truthfully. Just so you won’t miss that again as well…

"The value of the Catholic mass is incredible, and when you consider the incomparable gift of Christ of Himself in the Eucharist, it’s merit is incomparable."

Here is a complete list of RCC errors in faith and morals taught since the Church was established by Christ.
Notice it is empty… this is accurate. Those who twist Scriptures to their own destruction will sadly try to invent error where there is none. By attributing error to the Catholic Church’s teaching, one is at the same time doubting Christ.

Regarding your accusation that I was doubting your faith, it’s not doubting. It is examining what you have shown. You reject the teachings of those Christ sent. Therefore, you also reject Christ. Do you not understand Scriptures? Sorry, you’ve already answered that as yes. Instead, I should ask, do you not understand that which Christ has established?

What you don’t understand as well, is that I have done a great deal of research into considering these other points of view, before I posted here. I have considered the toughest arguments I could find against the Catholic Church, and the Church withstands them all. The ignorance is always with those who oppose the Bride of Christ. Christ is really and truly the Head of the Catholic Church. All people in Heaven are Catholic, even if you’re not before dying. There is a reason why God established one and only one Church on earth, known as the Catholic Church.

You are blessed more than you know, and yet you misunderstand and attribute false things to Christ.

I am likely blessed more than I know, and yet I humbly seek to do what Christ asked in the Church He built and protects.

Billy sorry but this is incorrect. It’s not Bible study. The teachings are from a religion book which contains the teachings on the Catechisms. It’s not straight Bible study. The Bible may be referenced to confirm the Church’s teaching in the Catechisms but so what. It’s still skewed to Catholic interpretations. Being #1 doesn’t mean you’re right.

These statistics are

  • from one single country
  • very recent
The US accounts for about 6% of Catholics worldwide, so it is hardly a representative sample. And to judge the CC’s attitude to anything - the Bible, the DP, women, or whatever it may be - by recent attitudes alone is not necessarily a good reflection of what those attitudes have been in the past (when comparisons can be made, which is not always the case: it would be absurd to expect a comparison between attitudes to nuclear weapons in the 16th & 20th centuries). A completely accurate comparison would have take account of Catholic attitudes to the Bible & to other books: if a million Catholics read the Bible, and 20 million read some other book instead, the stats for Bible-reading cease to look impressive. There are sure to be other things to take into account as well.

I asked how active your Catholic Adult Sunday/Bible School was. A simple question.

FYI-- This might be something that you are interested in getting started in your Catholic Church. Many Catholics are very interested in joining a Bible Study.

Last year, my parish in San Diego sponsored a day-long bible seminar attended by more than 400 people, which was followed up by a year long study of the narrative books of the bible, The Great Adventure Bible Timeline Seminar, which was attended by over 100 adults. Our teens also had an 8-week version of the course. Others are involved in small faith sharing groups that reflect on the readings from the weekend Masses.

I think that the fact that Catholics tended not to read the bible was a reaction to the Protestant Reformation. That’s changing. Personally, I’ve done bible studies on Hebrews, James, Revelation, I and II Thessalonians, Deuteronomy, Isaiah and Jeremiah in the last two years using scholarly commentaries.

“Ignorance of the Scriptures is ignorance of Christ.” (St. Jerome)
