I read what you wrote about Scripture Study…
“By going to mass on Sunday, we have two Bible readings, a Psalm, and Gospel reading. Then, we have a homily ostensibly from one following correct Catholic teaching.”
I must tell you that I did get a chuckle at your remarks about attending one Roman Catholic Mass. Sorry, but you are wrong–I attend Roman Catholic Mass just about every week. How much information do you honestly think that the best Roman Catholic priest can give his flock in a 15 minute sermon? If you want to just listen with no further discussion with the body of believers–you have got it. The knowledge about Christ’s mission and His purpose on Earth that I get from my Sunday School Class, Wednesday Bible Class and our sermons runs cartwheels around a fifteen minute Sunday Homily. Honestly, it is sad that you seem so unwilling to devote more time in your Church for an Adult Sunday School or an Adult Bible Study. What is your fear? I am not telling you to go to another Church, but to get a Bible Study and an Adult Sunday School program in your parish. So many times on this forum I have read people say that Roman Catholics leave the Church because they do not know their faith. Well, teach them and stop complaining!
I don’t think that you want to go into the errors of the Roman Catholic Church on this post. There are enough post on this forum discussing the errors of the RCC.
On a broader note, I am not sure why you think you can question my faith so easily - if I did the same you would be offended and I would risk being banned from this board. I am continuously amazed that the best I get from some folks on this board is “I am Catholic, so I am right and you are wrong.” Is that the best you can do? You speak of denying the truth, but you are afraid to even consider some other points of view, because you might find that your “truth” isn’t.
I am blessed to have a personal relationship with Christ, and I trust that you are as well.
God Bless!
No, you really didn’t. When I had told you before (that you missed), the quote I was referring to was:
"I do Bible Study, with the teachings of the Church. That’s the only way we know what God really teaches, whether via written or oral Tradition."
I’ll explain once more that the teachings of the Church in the Catechism make the best Bible companion available. Scripture study with the Catechism of the Catholic Church is wonderful in that one will not be in error.
Glad you got a chuckle, but you apparently you got one through misunderstanding. It’s not surprising that those who believe what they want, rather than the truth given by Christ, will mock the truth and won’t understand.
What was stated was that there was more value in the mass… The learned person would understand that the explanatory sentence that followed gave the reason… to include the valid Eucharist, which was also explicitly stated. Wasn’t too hard to see, for those who have the habit of seeing truthfully. Just so you won’t miss that again as well…
"The value of the Catholic mass is incredible, and when you consider the incomparable gift of Christ of Himself in the Eucharist, it’s merit is incomparable."
Here is a complete list of RCC errors in faith and morals taught since the Church was established by Christ.
Notice it is empty… this is accurate. Those who twist Scriptures to their own destruction will sadly try to invent error where there is none. By attributing error to the Catholic Church’s teaching, one is at the same time doubting Christ.
Regarding your accusation that I was doubting your faith, it’s not doubting. It is examining what you have shown. You reject the teachings of those Christ sent. Therefore, you also reject Christ. Do you not understand Scriptures? Sorry, you’ve already answered that as yes. Instead, I should ask, do you not understand that which Christ has established?
What you don’t understand as well, is that I have done a great deal of research into considering these other points of view, before I posted here. I have considered the toughest arguments I could find against the Catholic Church, and the Church withstands them all. The ignorance is always with those who oppose the Bride of Christ. Christ is really and truly the Head of the Catholic Church. All people in Heaven are Catholic, even if you’re not before dying. There is a reason why God established one and only one Church on earth, known as the Catholic Church.
You are blessed more than you know, and yet you misunderstand and attribute false things to Christ.
I am likely blessed more than I know, and yet I humbly seek to do what Christ asked in the Church He built and protects.
