When is the first day of Christmas and is ‘Epiphany’ observed on the twelfth day?

In the Western Church, the Epiphany is celebrated on the Sunday just before 1/6, however, in the secular mode, “Three Kings” is 1/6.

Actually, that’s not necessarily true. In the US, sure, we’ve moved the Feast of the Epiphany to the Sunday after Jan. 1. But in the universal Church, and in many countries (including the Vatican, Canada, the UK, Australia, Mexico, etc.), the Feast of the Epiphany is still celebrated on Jan. 6. In the territories where Epiphany lands on Jan. 6, it is considered a Holy Day of Obligation. The reason why Epiphany lands on the twelfth day AFTER Christmas (Christmas itself is not considered in the count), well… the Magi had to travel. Their travel actually probably took a bit over a year (remember, they probably came from Persia - the thought is that they belonged to the Zoroastrian religion, which put heavy emphasis on astrology).

In some dioceses in some nations of the Western Church, the Epiphany is celebrated…

😉

Hmm, so we don’t count ‘Christmas Day’, December 25th., as the first day of Christmas, but instead, start counting the twelve days from the 26th.?

No. Dec 25 is the first day of Christmas. The 12th and last day is Jan 5.
