As I counted out my change when paying for my lunch today I noticed something. The states shown on the backs of my quarters were “battleground” states - states which have been moving in and out of the “toss-up” category in recent presidential polls.
I realized this is an opportunity for all of us to get a powerful prayer-chain going for the upcoming presidential election.
I call this the 25-cent prayer. It only takes a moment, but in the short time remaining before the election we can make a truly awesome difference. This is a non-partisan prayer in which we can all join, regardless of our personal political views. This prayer takes no position and names no names save one - the only position and the only name that really count: that of our Lord in Heaven.
Here’s how it works:
Reach into your pocket or your wallet, pull out your quarters, and look at the reverse sides. Read the names of the states shown there and put it into this prayer:
"Lord, I pray for your wisdom and guidance to fill the people of __________________ as they cast their votes in the upcoming election. In Jesus’ name, amen."
The US Mint has now released quarters for 49 of the 50 states, all except Hawaii. If the quarter you are holding has the 1776-1976 Bicentennial colonial drummer on the reverse, dedicate your prayer for Hawaii.
If the quarter you are holding has the eagle on the reverse, dedicate your prayer for all the people in our nation: ****
"Lord, I pray for your wisdom and guidance to fill the people of this great nation as they cast their votes in the upcoming election. In Jesus’ name, amen."
Repeat this prayer every time you handle a quarter from now through November 4th. It only takes a moment.
And pass this message along to every godly, civic-minded person you know. Together we CAN make a difference.
