Wow, I suggest you search history just a little bit deeper. Although much of what could have been see through the HS could not be explained in terms we have today, many things that were prophesized were put in descriptions of their day. The apostle John of instance did this very thing.

I expect for the same reason hundreds of thousands of chemists work on drugs whose effects are, in most cases, worse than the disease they suppose to treat - it’s a well paid job. Do you think they’d get the same funding if they stated their goal was to find evidence for Creationism? Evolution keeps their paychecks rolling while Creationism would starve them to death.

What happens to a society is very largely dependent upon the demands made on it and the state of its technological development. Technological development is dependent upon invention - in the case of the development of civilization, that ‘invention’ was agriculture: without agriculture - no settlements (‘civitas’ - ‘civilization’), no development of ‘signs’ into ‘sign structures’ like complex languages, writing (for keeping records) or math (for accounting), no need for trade routes and transport.

Hunter/gatherer societies had no need for such complexities (their remnants still don’t).
