I cut out parts of the lyrics to “The Rose” because I wasn’t sure they could be republished like this. You can look them up on the internet. Appears to have wide popularity and translated into numerous languages. At any rate, I have always thought it woudl make a good hymn, particularly in a penitential ceremony. Reminds me of dying to self and the parable of the seed.
Some say love, it is a river
That drowns the tender reed.
/////////
I say love, it is a flower,
And you its only seed.
////////////////////////
It’s the one who won’t be taken,
Who cannot seem to give,
And the soul afraid of dyin’
That never learns to live.
When the night has been too lonely
And the road has been too long,
///////////////////
Just remember in the winter
Far beneath the bitter snows
Lies the seed that with the sun’s love
In the spring becomes the rose.
Some say love, it is a river
That drowns the tender reed.

And you its only seed.
