**The Agony of Christ’s Passion
**
In Gethsemane’s garden, knowing fully what is coming,
Jesus prays to His Father asking to avoid this horrible suffering,
But surrenders His Will to that of His Father’s loving command,
That all may be fully redeemed and come to truly understand.
O Jesus, help us to surrender our will to Your loving desire,
Without complaining, regretting, or inner resentful fire.
Judas’ betrayal in the garden with a kiss breaks Jesus’ heart.
From the incredible pain betrayals from a loved one impart,
But Jesus permits it knowing that multitudes will benefit greatly
And surrenders Himself to the local authorities most humbly.
O Jesus, help us to remain loyal to You under all stress,
Whether for pleasure, for wealth, or even under duress.
Jesus is brought in front of the Jewish leaders and falsely accused,
Found guilty of great blasphemy and then socially abused,
But knowing the full truth and their stony hearts’ hardness,
He does not argue; His heart is shattered by their blindness.
O Jesus, help us to remain courteous even under persecutions,
And lovingly witness for You in all our spoken words and actions.
Jesus is brutally scourged by Roman soldiers all over His body;
His muscles, His skin, His organs all scream out in pure agony,
But Jesus remains quiet, accepting the suffering for you and me,
Bring us all saving redemption and uniting with us in His glory.
O Jesus, help us to accept our natural sufferings in love,
Offering them to You, the Father, and the Holy Spirit above.
Pontius Pilate unjustly condemns Jesus to death by crucifixion,
Quieting the outspoken crowd in act of political pacification,
But Jesus knowing the good to come, humbly accepts judgment,
Understanding that his immense suffering would bring many repentant.
O Jesus, help us endure unfair persecution with boldness,
Responding with love in our heart, gentleness, and kindness.
Beaten Jesus humbly carries His heavy cross up to Mount Calvary;
His pain, His suffering, His great agony, is apparent for all to see;
But Jesus endures, willing Himself to continue in His great offering
Of Himself as a sacrifice for all our sins, regardless of the suffering.
O Jesus, help us to carrying our crosses in this human life,
Whether light and easy, or heavy and causing us great strife.
Jesus is stripped of his garments and nailed to the cross to die.
The cross is raised causing great pain throughout His bruised body.
Jesus can barely breathe, but offers us words of love and wisdom,
Showing forgiveness for all, and longing for us in the His kingdom.
O Jesus, when our time to die, quickly or in pain, has come
Let us die with loving dignity and then welcome us home.
