I have this friend who stopped going to Catholic Churches just because of this symbol which is a triangle with an eye in it. He is already thinking of converting.
He states that those churches have the “Illuminati” symbol.
I know very well that the Illuminatis indeed use this symbol (for different reasons of course) but how can I defend that the ones on Catholic Churches are NOT of the Illuminati? 😦

I assume he doesn’t use dollar bills, either? Your friend has been taking-in too many radio preachers and YouTube paranoia videos.
 
I bet you one ocean front property in Arizona he may have been to that site which has the initials j-i-s.com and got his information there.

Ask him, as someone else said, if he’s going to stop using $1 bills

While the “friend” has certainly been watching too much paranoia stuff, I’m prepared to bet that he doesn’t use dollar bills either - probably has no use for them, however, Philippine pesos would be a different matter. 😉
 
Why DO some churches have that symbol? Was there a different meaning in the olden days? Or is it just artistic?

And where does he find the symbol in/on Catholic churches?

(Just asking - I don’t believe that symbol of God is bad or connected with the non-existant illuminati :rolleyes:)
 
A lot of popular music is using it now, making a triangle with the hands to symbolize the “all-seeing eye.” Maybe they’ll quit using rosaries for gang symbols now. I once saw a Catholic church building with UN symbolism incorporated into the stained-glass windows. I don’t remember if the a-s eye was part of it, too. I was just generally concerned about the use of secular symbols in place of sacred art. I hope your friend understands that even if there is a parish, (or more than one), that makes use of that symbol, that it does not mean the whole Church is no longer the Holy Catholic Church. If we all converted to some denomination every time we encountered a parish that doesn’t conform exactly to the rubrics of the Church, there would be a lot fewer Catholics. Leaving the Church isn’t going to help anyone or anything, is it?

Is it a symbol of God? Where can we get more information on that? I’d like to read more about it if it is.

There is no such thing as the Illuminati.

The symbol you refer to is a symbol for God the Father.
 
According to the book “Catholic Source Book,” the all seeing eye is a symbol of God the Father. The triangle is a symbol of the Trinity. Other symbols listed for God the Father are: Creator’s star, Hand of God (Manus Dei) (Psalm 98:1), Souls of the righteous (in hand) (Wisdom 3:1), and two yods (tenth letter of the Hebrew alphabet).

I just checked the online Catholic Encyclopedia. It states that the Illuminati was a secret society begun in 1776. (I hope I remembered that date correctly. I know for sure that it was in the 1700’s) I’m pretty sure that the symbol of the all-seeing eye has been around longer than that. To me it seems that the Church did not take up a symbol of the Illuminati but rather that maybe that secret society took up a symbol that the Church already was using.
 
I’ve found something that explains it as the Eye of Providence. It’s on our one dollar bill.

The symbol may have had Egyptian roots trying to explain their god watching over them but now has become Christianized into Christian symbolatry just as people have. There is no more Egyptian culture calling the Pharoah god and they didn’t have the full knowledge of Our eternal all-knowing God through Jesus but there is Christianity which continues because we’ve received the knowledge of God through the Holy spirit.

Jesus converts not only people but cultures.

When I see it it brings me to think of the eye of God or the beatifiic vision.
