Hello, does anyone else love this amazing show on FX?

One of the greatest moments came this season when the 2 main characters, confronting a pastor actually, told them they didn’t believe in his God or Religion, but the pastor had a very
profound statement. To paraphrase:

(Pertaining to God/Religion/Faith) “None of that matters, what only matters is how we treat one another.”

Golden Rule indeed.
 
That pastor on the show was just plain wrong. God & religion matter very much.
 
I really enjoy this show to.

Great writing and great acting, which is a combination rarely seen on TV these days. It’s gotten a little talky and slower moving in the past two seasons and the characters a little darker, but the plot is still riveting. It would be nice to see the FBI catch somebody once in awhile though!😃

That’s not profound, it’s called “wishful thinking.”

If this was the highlight of the season, I suggest you look elsewhere for religious enlightenment.

What “Pastor Tim” said is besides the OP. “The Americans” is a terrific show, and I’ve been enjoying it from its first season. No one watches it for “religious enlightenment.”

Most of all, being kind to someone requires that you tell them the truth about things that affect their everlasting life. The truth is that one needs to love God in order to be with God. Failing that, one ends up in hell.

I’ve never seen the show, but it seemed that the OP was impressed with the anti-religion sentiment that the pastor character said.
 
The show brings up the interesting point of socialist infiltration in America. Back then, the Soviets sent secret agents to America. Socialism is now coming from within the American public.

I was impressed that as a holy man, he was able to look beyond his beliefs and present the “golden rule” as some would say. Namely, how you treat others is the most important thing in this life, which I agree with. I did not see it as “anti-religion” at all, but rather pro kindness. 🙂

Uhh… the golden rule IS a religious belief.

It’s just not the end point of religious belief.

And you said that the pastor character said "(Pertaining to God/Religion/Faith) “None of that matters” That sounds somewhat anti-religious to me 🤷

Perhaps I actually had to see the show (which I didn’t) to understand what you’re getting at.

One does not need religion to know the Golden Rule. It’s common sense. And both my religious and atheist friends follow it, and I love them all.
 
This show is amazing. It’s sad that the example used by the op takes away from the topic. Pastor Tim should have been killed. I thought for sure in episode one of this season that would happen. The body count this season was lower. But the series focused on the parent child relationships more.

My observations for the final two seasons.
I was suprise do they killed off one of the main characters this season. It should have been pastor Tim. He has got to go.
Where is Martha? Id love to see her Soviet digs.
Why is the son not recruited or involved at a higher level? He is almost a side character while Paige, the daughter, got an incredible amount of screen time.
Will there be a " breaking bad" moment when Stan figures it out and confronts Philip!?

This is really a quality show.

That’s not the golden rule. Heck, that’s not even the silver rule.
 
I used to love this show too, but in the pilot episode and during various episodes especially one I vividly remember (where Elizabeth asks her husband about what kind of sexual relations he is having with Martha and the scene looked like a rape), there is many simulated sex scenes considered porn by the Catechism.

Are we allowed to watch that? I’m always afraid of making a mortal sin so I watch similar shows holding the remote in my hand.
