The Analogous Version

Hi, I am a Latin Rite Catholic, but I came back to the Catholic first through Byzantium before returning back to my patrimony. I am contemplating joining the Order of the Friar Preachers [The Dominicans] and they are known for not necessarily having their own “spirituality” to them, rather they are a pretty balanced order whose spirituality is both Active and Contemplative, but I was curious to know what Religious Order in the Latin part of the Church best reflects the spirituality of Byzantine Catholics? (Benedictine, Carmelite, Carthusian, Trappist, Franciscan) PICK Only One that you’d say best reflects.

This would be better asked in the vocations forum. I have not found much help here researching that topic, best if you actually visit or communicate with the religious communities yourself. That said, I do not believe you will find what you are looking for because Eastern and Western spirituality are quite different.

This is a convent of discalced carmelite nuns but belonging to Byzantine church,

Yes, see so I have one Vote for Carmelites, but there’s also Benedictines [who certainly have that founding to that same time prior to The Schism of 1054], then the you have the Sub-Groups in the Benedictine Order: Cistercians and Trappists. Then you have Carthusians (Founded a little after the The Great Schism of 1054) and as stated above the Carmelites (some say they have their origins to the 4th Century or Elijah, making it perhaps on the same par as the Benedictines).

So I feel these Orders in the West are the ones who best resemble the Eastern Catholic Path, *YET * I want people to give just one of these they think best reflects.

Also, in the same town is a Benedictine Monastery, which I have attended Mass and week-end retreats in the past. This monastery shares the same chapel with the sisters at St Scholastica Priory. They sing parts of the Mass in Latin, but on Thursday, the entire Mass and Divine Office are in Latin

I prefer the Trappists monastery at Spencer, MA, because I prefer the Divine Office and the Mass in English.

The bottom line is, pray and seek God’s will on where he wants you, if he wants you in a monastic order at all.

Remember, the call is an invitation, not an order.
