It’s already beginning…

Every year about this time, the enemies of God and of the Church launch a concentrated attack through every medium at their disposal. On secular TV programs, news weeklies and news papers, we are flooded with stories and articles that purport to reveal the “real” Jesus, that focus on scandal in the Church, question the truth and accuracy of the Scriptures and the authority of the Church, etc, etc. That’s what this *Da Vinci Code * nonsense is really about, not to mention the latest buzz revolving around a movie now being shown in theaters on whether or not Jesus actually existed!

This is the time of year fundamentalist anti-Catholics, hoping to confuse poorly catechized Catholics or inspire their members to target the non-practicing, increasingly use their pulpits and their radio broadcast time to attack (sometimes subtly) Catholics and Catholic teaching. Many, many large fundamentalist and Evangelical churches are made up almost completely of EX Catholics. They didn’t get there because they knew their Faith–just the opposite.

All of them know that Easter and Christmas are times when the unchurched are at least slightly more interested in religion and are perhaps looking to find a church, if only for that one day. The first group wants people to stay away; the second wants to draw them by hook or crook into their own folds. The very same scenario plays out year after year after year. Don’t be fooled or let your friends and relatives be fooled. Be alert. Arm yourself with solid Catholic teaching and stand firm, for the assault WILL come.

The assault is daily and ongoing anyway, but I know what you mean.

From the interview, this new book sounds even less substantial than the DaVinci Code. The part that hurts is that the fool will make a bunch of money on his book no matter how flimsy his hypothesis is.

Unfortunately for him, the part that will really hurt is when he has to give an account for his lies on the day of judgment.

The frightening thing is the confidence with which he gives his answers. It’s complete nonsense, but it’s so easy to let your thoughts drift to “what ifs”.

O boy, its time for all of those, well researched disovery channel Jesus programs… Just like they had that program years ago about that James, the brother of Jesus burial box that turned out to be fake. When those shows talk about archeology in the Holy Land and they show computer models of how the temple used to look, etc. That’s interesting and tunes me in, but as soon as they start talking about, “The historical Jesus,” that’s when I turn on EWTN.

Not if you think about it.

The devil tried his hardest to defeat Jesus. He failed. That upset the devil alot therefore he still wants to get at Jesus so he goes through us. He will try to make us fight with ourselves and will tell us lies about who Jesus is.The devil doesn’t want us to know that Jesus beat him and that we are saved as our sins have been paid for SO he will always attack when he thinks he can gain the most ground.

As someone mentioned earlier he picks Easter and Christmas. The two times a year when even the most lasped Christian will probaly go to church. Therefore the Devil needs to attack when he thinks he catch some people who are trying to find their way back to GOD. Some of them will defeat him and start repairing their relationship with GOD and Jesus and some will fall.

We need to all be strong and we need to pray hard for all during this season especially those coming back to the faith in some fashion.

I think we shouldn’t expect anything less. It makes sense that His Church is persecuted during a season in which Christ Himself was was mocked, humiliated, tortured and put to death. We shouldn’t start worrying until the Church is not persecuted.

*They are around about nine or ten inches long, four five inches high. There’s two of them. They may be two parts of one document. They’re on papyrus. They’re written in Aramaic.
James: You call them the “Jesus papers”?
Baigent: I do indeed. I do indeed.
James: Are they here? Are they in England?
Baigent: I can’t say where they are.
James: Are they in France?
Baigent: It’s not for me to reveal where they are or reveal the owner. If he wishes to do this, then that’s up to him. It’s not for me to do it. I respect his desire for privacy.

If these letters are real, Baigent contends it would mean Jesus was saying he was an ordinary man and not divine. But Baigent admits he can’t back up his claim.
James: Were you allowed to copy the papers?
Baigent: Nothing.
James: Were you allowed to photograph them?
Baigent: Nothing. Nothing. Nothing. Nothing.
James: Did anybody else see them with you?
Baigent: No one else was there. Just me.
James: So you were in a room looking at papers you couldn’t read that were in Aramaic?
Baigent: Yes.
James: So in essence, you’re asking people to believe what you say about documents, but they’ll never see the documents. They’ll never have the proof.
Baigent: The alternative is to ignore them and I can’t do that.*

Now that’s evidence that will stand up in any court! :banghead:

Things will continue to heat up until Easter. and pick up again when the Duh Vinci Code movie is about to be released.
I would not spend a single second in the movie theatre watching this trash. I watched that interview about the Jesus papers and this guy can’t prove anything. He bases everything on speculative information. We are suppose to trust his word that the Church is covering up something. Pleasssse!!! I would not trust anything this man says or writes.

Hi First of 9,

That Baigent character was so annoying; he throws ideas straight out of his imagination and we are supposed to give them the same weight as facts or things that have been studied carefully. We live in such a relativistic world that all we have to do is just believe it and it will be so. This goofy logic is the primary tool of things like liberalism, Islam, and quite a few of the communities of our separated brethren.

God Bless!

Many choose Easter to mythicize Jesus

Every Easter season is observed in the popular media by stories that politely reduce Jesus of Nazareth to a mythological character. Arguments range from “He didn’t exist” to “He wasn’t who his followers thought he was.”

Ironically, Muslims, Jews and Buddhists escape this kind of revisionism. Anyone arguing that Mohammed, Abraham, Moses and the Buddha were merely mythological characters would be laughed out of court.

Jesus is vulnerable to the revisionists because he claimed to be the son of God and backed up his claim by conquering death for all time and for all peoples. Easter is the celebration of his success. To avoid confronting the consequences of Easter, many seek safety by arguing that the resurrection never happened.
