SerraSemper,

Thank you for this wonderful post and thank you for the work that you do for God in His Church.
As one who has been through the system, I can attest to what you say about the nature of the questions and how difficult it can be for the participants. The questionnaire we used was over 40 essay type questions and in my case the courtship early marriage questions were reaching back better than 30 years.

My big concern with the marriage - divorce - annulment situation is that too many people seem to want to target the annulment process itself which I believe is a grave injustice as well as being foolishly shortsighted.
Having been in the Quality field for many years I learned the importance of “Root Cause analysis”. Now - if we in the Church are truly as smart as we hope we are - we will recognize that the tribunal system is not the problem but rather is the repository generator of a great deal of highly valuable information relating to the “root causes” of failure in Catholic marriage.
As of yet it appears the Church is not making adequate use of this data…or maybe I have just not heard of it…(which is entirely possible…😊)…but it seems to me that this data can and should be used to help our priests, deacons, counselors etc to better screen, advise, warn and generally prepare our young people for the rigors, as well as the joys, of marriage and then to help guide them during their marriage when there are issues.

Anyway - I can get a bit windy on the matter…😊
I started a thread where I hope to gather actual data that can help in the many discussions we have here it is located HERE. If you have the opportunity to look and feel you can offer anything (numbers, links etc.), it would be greatly appreciated.

Peace
James

Let me try again. The American bishops do not typically allow for the annulment process to begin prior to a civil divorce because:
  1. It does show that the parties will not reconcile.
It is one of the lies from the father of all lies to give civil divorce the power to be proof that a couple “will not reconcile.” He would like us to believe that after a civil divorce the couple will NEVER reconcile.

With God, all things are possible. Even softening a hardened heart or hearts and bringing two civilly divorced people back to each other and to Him.

We usually find these examples in the Protestant world…

It would be true to say of civil divorce…
  1. It shows that at least one of the parties is not presently willing to reconcile
But we cannot say that the parties “will not reconcile.” For that leads people to believe that there will not be reconciliation… either in the present or in the future.

For 10 years from now God may soften their heart and they may reconcile.

LOVE SO AMAZING

QUESTION: Hello, I am going through an annulment and was granted “marriage annuled” in the first instance and am now going through the second instance which is in Sacramento, CA. was wondering if anyone can give me a rough time limit of how long this part of the process may take. Its been such a roller coaster of feelings and overwhelming emotions going through this after a physical and emotional abusive marriage 😦
