Hello:

In the Masses of today, should there be a special Celebration for the Annunciation of the Lord?

Grace be with you.

Depends on where you are located. Because Annunciation fell during the Easter Octave this year it is either ommitted or transferred. In the US, it was transferred to today. I don’t know about other countries.

And it was a beautiful celebration, at least at the parish I attended this morning. 🙂

Why would we not celebrate the Annunciation. This is what gave us Jesus through the Incarnation.

Because Holy Week and the Easter Octave supercede all other liturgical feast days and solemnities, and Annunciation fell during Easter Octave this year. The two choices are to omit the feast from the calendar or move it to another day. Each bishop’s conference would decide which.

I am well aware of that. Thats why it was celebrated on 3-31 in my Archdiocese.

You asked “why would we not celebrate it”?

You would not celebrate it if you lived in one of the places where it was ommitted from the calendar his year instead of transferred.

Where exactly are solemnities of the Lord suppressed in any year?

1ke, as a solemnity is must be transferred. It cannot be omitted.
