Hello I have also been arguing about the anti Christ. The person says that the Church already knows who the anti Christ its and that all that has happened. Can you guys help me out here and tell me the Church teaching on the anti Christ. Thanks šŸ™‚

The Church doesn’t give an official opinion on this but the consensus is that the anti-christ is sort of a profound heresy not a person.

The idea that the anti-christ is an individual is protestant (evangelical) understanding. They like to interpret the book of Revelations in very exciting comic book like ways that are not very theologically or intellectually mature.

On the other hand to think this way sure does make things sound more interesting, and is good for books and movies. šŸ˜‰

The Church does not know who the anti Christ might be.

Anti-Christ ultimately means the devil and all who work through him. Don’t succumb to the Protestant fads! The book of Revalation is supposed to comfort us in the face of persecution, not make us fear.

Remember how the Fatima children were enveloped in divine joy when they were threatened to be thrown in a vat of boiling oil, because they knew it was all for God and they would be soon to see Him.

Remember also: Blessed are they that suffer persecution for justice’ sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. It is the ultimate privelege to suffer like Christ by the hand of any of the world’s anti-Christs.

Is it really not a person?
I have never heard any priest or theologian state that the anti-christ is a person. In the middle ages I think some had this idea but to define the anti-christ as some sort of ā€œOmenesqueā€ villain is not Catholic.

But again the Church doesn’t give official opinions of this type of thing.

Hey, I admit I like the Left Behind series. It’s cool. BUT only as fiction.

Yeah I’ve never read those. Are they preachy, like in an evangelical way? Or just good entertainment. Also is the Church dealt with well in them?

Many of the Saints taught that the Antichrist is a particular person.
The Virgin Mary at La Salette taught that the Antichrist is a particular person.

Pope Benedict XVI: ā€œThe continuation of this text announces that before the Lord’s arrival there will be apostasy, and one well-described as the ā€œman of lawlessnessā€, ā€œthe son of perditionā€ (2: 3) must be revealed, who tradition would come to call the Antichrist.ā€
[General Audience, 12 November 2008]

Scripture describes the Antichrist as one particular man, the man of lawlessness, the son of perdition.

Catholic Apologist Mike Aquilina has done a video series refuting the Left Behind series. You may be able to find it on the EWTN site.

Well . . . they can be pretty preachy but if the world were ending that way we’d probably get preachy too. 🤷 For the most part the adult series is entertainment (the chidren’s tends to be more preachy than the adult) - the thing I like is reading the verses from Revelation and seeing how the authors interpret it. I don’t know if the Church has reviewed them - I was protestant when I first read them and guess I’ve never really thought to look for a Catholic review. I’m pretty sure they aren’t considered morally offensive though.
