The anti-Christ

Apparently it relates to two self-proclaimed prophets, of which, of course, speak directly with God.

I’ll give you a hint to who these two claim is a puppet of the Anti-Christ: he warms St. Peter’s chair.

Maximin’s and Mélanie’s secrets were sent in 1851 to Pius IX on the advice of Mgr. de Bruillard. It is unknown what impressions these mysterious revelations made on the pope, for on this point there were two versions diametrically opposed to each other. Maximin’s secret is not known, for it was never published. Mélanie’s was inserted in its entirety in brochure which she herself had printed in 1879 at Lecce, Italy, with the approval of the bishop of that town. A lively controversy followed as to whether the secret published in 1879 was identical with that communicated to Pius IX in 1851, or in its second form it was not merely a work of the imagination. The latter was the opinion of wise and prudent persons, who were persuaded that a distinction must be made between the two Mélanies, between the innocent and simple voyante of 1846 and the visionary of 1879, whose mind had been disturbed by reading apocalyptic books and the lives of illuminati. As Rome uttered no decision the strife was prolonged between the disputants.
I didn’t know that. Nevertheless these are all details, truth is truth.

I dunno. Some of us see CAF as a community and would actually prefer to keep our identities consistent.
Yes, exactly. I am known as JosephFG, it is the same name I use in my primary email address which I have had for years. If I were banned from this forum, I probably wouldn’t bother to come back. I’d like to avoid that if possible.

Still, this topic has been opened up. I know the truth. People should know the truth, shouldn’t they?

Let me say a little more: Discernment is found in Love. Now, discernment is also normally found in Church Authority, but what happens if the hierarchy of the Church fails to love?

What happens, for example, if a Pope should fall into material heresy? Theological opinion is strong that he would thereby fall from the Chair. If that has happened in our time, how would we be able to rely on the Vatican for authentic discernment of alleged supernatural phenomena? Plainly, we wouldn’t be able to.

So if discernment is found in Church Authority AND in Love, but Church Authority fails, then we can only find it in Love. The actual identity of the Antichrist is a matter of discernment. Who will identify him in his own time? Scripture says he will be revealed in his own time, but it does not specify that he will be revealed to all. And he works in darkness, so his desire is to conceal himself while he reigns. I know, via the discernment that is found in Love, who he is, and I would rather not keep it a secret. I would rather expose the work of iniquity to the light of day, so as to see it destroyed.

But I have read the forum rules. I guess the question is, which side will this forum come down on? I HOPE the mods of this forum will choose wisely, and favor the light rather than the darkness.

I also know that God is doing everything, and that nothing at all can escape His holy Will. This is why I asked, “please advise.” And I meant a moderator with authority to advise me. This is just an internet forum after all. This is not the Magisterium of the Church. But it is a highly visible and well-populated forum, and if it is time now for God to expand awareness of these things, prudence is advised. I am being prudent. I will wait for a communication from a moderator before I will say anything explicit.

I hope what I have said here is clear enough, and I lament the appearance of ambiguity or vagary, as such things are more the tools of the Enemy than of my God. I wish that I did not see so many banned posters. Honestly, that scares me. I don’t want to be banned. That would taint my reputation, and I am a devout, faithful son of the Church.

At this point, it seems, I have no other recourse than to ask the mods to seek discernment, in love, of me. These are difficult times. I have only been posting here for a short amount of time, but I’ve seen a lot of good folks here. But this is not like any other forum. It gives the distinct air of authority — people come here for answers about their questions about the Catholic Faith. If I have Wisdom, it should be known. But if I am banned, that will create scandal.

So tell me what to do! For the purposes of my posting on this forum, I place myself under voluntary obedience to the mods, and I ask them to ask God, what they should do, about me. I testify, that I have the information that is the subject of this thread. I testify, that I do love God, and His Immaculate Mother, and His Church.

Please advise! Thank you.

I am personally very skeptical of individuals claiming special eschatological insight.

“1040 The Last Judgment will come when Christ returns in glory. Only the Father knows the day and the hour; only he determines the moment of its coming. Then through his Son Jesus Christ he will pronounce the final word on all history. We shall know the ultimate meaning of the whole work of creation and of the entire economy of salvation and understand the marvelous ways by which his Providence led everything towards its final end. The Last Judgment will reveal that God’s justice triumphs over all the injustices committed by his creatures and that God’s love is stronger than death.628”

That said, the Church does have this to say on the Antichrist -

“676 The Antichrist’s deception already begins to take shape in the world every time the claim is made to realize within history that messianic hope which can only be realized beyond history through the eschatological judgment. The Church has rejected even modified forms of this falsification of the kingdom to come under the name of millenarianism,577 especially the “intrinsically perverse” political form of a secular messianism.578”

What is happening now is the fulfillment of Our Lady of Fatima’s promise that, “In the end, my Immaculate Heart will triumph.” It is happening, through devotion to her Rosary. Kindly see my post, “the Penitential Rosary Crusade.” This is a movement that began in the laity in Boston, and has been spreading worldwide, through both laity and clergy who have the necessary discernment to recognize it as from Our Blessed Mother herself. In my own parish, I have been leading a rosary every Saturday together with this prayer, and beginning in Lent this year, my parish priest is going to assist me in starting a Rosary Society for the purpose of getting together one other day during the week, to pray the Penitential Rosary Crusade Prayer, and “rosary after rosary after rosary.” (I.e., fifteen decades at least.)

This is authentic spirituality, and as it says in that prayer, “begin now, Blessed Mother, to increase the efficacy of the rosaries we pray to you for the conversion from sins of all of us here in the Archdiocese of (in my case) Hartford.” She is doing it, now, just as she promised.

Skepticism is not a virtue. Prudence is a virtue. Skepticism can lead to cynicism, whereas prudence leads to discernment.

Peace!

I didn’t know that. Nevertheless these are all details, truth is truth.
The only problem, JosephFG, is that the quotes below are from a controversial version of the secret that may not be from the original secret delivered to Pius IX written in 1851. Rather, they appear to be from a later, embellished version of the secret :

1.“Rome will lose the faith and become the seat of the antichrist”

and
  1. “It will be during this time that the antichrist will be born of a Hebrew nun, a false virgin, who will communicate with the old serpent, the master of impurity; his father will be a bishop. He will be the devil incarnate, he will work wonders, he will feed on nothing but impurity.”
Here is a little more history, JosephFG:

Melanie Calvat befriended Gilbert Combe, a French priest who was drawn toward the La Salette apparition. Until nearly the end of her life, they would remain in close contact. Calvat confided in him, and he made an important contribution in the further study of the secrets on the basis of his extensive collection of private letters and notes. She told him a number of moral confidences relating to the end times. These moral confidences are a third source of relevant information concerning the secret, next to the message given to Melanie, and the ecclesiastical rule of the religious orders. They are also a source of controversy and speculation.

In 1901 Gilbert Combe republished Melanie’s latter edition secret of 1873, the now prohibited secret, together with her moral confidences. His book was labeled anti-Bonapartist and pro-Bourbon by opponents. It favoured traditional monarchism over republicanism. It was put on the Index of Forbidden Books by the Catholic Church. Again in 1906 another of Combe’s publicationswas placed on the index.

These actions of the church caused a great deal of confusion in Catholic minds, so that it was compelled to clarify that the original shortened edition of the message of 1851 remained approved, and it was only the latter contributions, that were precautious.

During the pontificate of pope Benedict XV, the church was compelled to address the issue again. Benedict XV issued an admonitum or formal papal warning recognizing the many different versions of the secret from 1858 onwards, in all its diverse forms, and forbidding the faithful or the clergy to investigate or discuss them without permission from their bishops. The admonitum further affirmed that the church’s prohibition of discussion issued under Pope Leo XIII issued in 1879 remained binding.

Here is also a letter that you may find relevant, JosephFG:
In order to answer your question Monseigneur, I have just read the two pamphlets concerning which you desire to know my opinion. It is absolutely unfavourable. The authors of previous publications, to do with this secret, were condemned, if not because of the secret itself, at least because of the scope and the consequences they gave it. A similar fate awaits this present publication.

I. –** It seems, in fact, that we do not have here the secret handed by the Bishop of Grenoble’s envoys to HH Pope Pius IX in 1851**. In its present form, it was written by Mélanie Calvat, but on various occasions and in successive fragments, and seems rather to be the result of a personal composition than an exact repetition of the original text given to Pius IX, and which is said to be no longer in the Vatican.

II. – As it stands, this secret has no value other than as Mélanie Calvat’s personal statement, supported by the signature of two bishops from around Naples. Mélanie seems to have been sincerely pious, but she may have been deluded, and it seems that her ‘mission’, instead of extending to our period, ended with the Church’s recognition of the reality of the Apparition.

III. – What is certain, according to a well informed author, is that the first versions of the secret were less developed than the last; it is probable, therefore, that under the influence of the setting in which her life ended, Mélanie amplified the first form of the writing she had had sent to the Pope; for certain, we do not have here an official copy of the secret handed to Pius IX. Only the Sacred Congregation of the Holy Office could, with the Pope’s consent, seek out the original and so determine, against the original contents, its true authority.

IV. – The nature of this secret, as we read it today, is so strange, arranged in such a confused manner, containing particular allusions to politics, it seems to favour, in such a very precise way, the errors of the ancient millenarists – in that it announces a renovation to be accomplished in time and on earth, unlike the teaching of the true religion about the general resurrection at the end of the world, and about the eternal happiness of the elect – that one necessarily hesitates to ascribe it a heavenly origin. Finally, and more especially, the commentator has taken such liberty in evaluating and judging the Catholic hierarchy, in all its degrees, that one wonders what basis there is for the severity of his words, which would not be out of place in the pages of a newspaper most hostile to the Christian faith. One also wonders how he allies the true piety he professes with the harshness he displays towards persons worthy of every respect…You will not, therefore be surprised, Monseigneur, if I condemn these two pamphlets by Dr Mariavé, if I rebuke their spirit and their character, and if I advise the faithful not to read them.

With my affectionate respect,

A., cardinal de Cabrières
Bishop of Montpellier.*

I’ll give you a hint to who these two claim is a puppet of the Anti-Christ: he warms St. Peter’s chair.
You forgot the part about waiting for discernment from Pope John Paul II, for 25 years, which is most certainly an example of heroic obedience. Thus, “self-proclaimed” is not a characteristic of these two prophets. Heroically obedient to God’s Church, is a characteristic.

The easiest thing for me to do, of course, would simply be to create a different account under a pseudonym, and post all this stuff anyway, and accept banning. This way, I could dissociate my name from the whole thing and get it on here anyway.

The only reason I will not do that, is that that would not be upright and honest. I refuse to participate, even the tiniest bit, in acts or works of deception. I love God.

Thank you for the lesson on rhetoric.

I respect that the Church has declared the apparitions at Fatima to be “worthy of belief,” though of course as private revelations no Catholic is required to accept them. I also have a great deal of respect for the practice of the Rosary and the Marian devotion.

I do not question the Fatima apparitions. What I do question is your certitude that you have been made privy to special information that the rest of us have not. How is it that if Jesus Christ himself does not know the appointed hour (as the Catechism states, only the Father knows), you have apparently been given special knowledge of its approach (as knowledge of the Antichrist’s existence, let alone identity, would be)?

I’m not special. I’m not the only one with this information. I’m just the only one on this forum, apparently, although just as apparently, others have heard of this. And I never claimed to know the appointed time of the Parousia. What I said is that “now” is the time to convert from sin. I challenge you to find anything against Catholic Doctrine in that!

:rotfl:

Self-evident statement is self-evident.

Your exact quote was “I am aware of the identity of the AntiChrist, and of the hidden reality of his reign, which shall be shortened, according to Scripture.”

How is this not a claim to special knowledge of the approach of the appointed hour?

I’m not going to argue it with you, this is not up for debate. I’m awaiting word from a moderator, whether I should proceed.

This is not about LaSalette.

Suit yourself; I was under the impression that this was a discussion board. 🤷

This is not about LaSalette.
This is absolutely about La Salette, which you earlier referenced.

Perhaps you forgot about your post #13 on this thread, where you wrote:
"Recall the prophecy of LaSalette: “Rome will lose the faith, and become the seat of the AntiChrist.”
That is all I shall say, I think I am safe saying that since LaSalette is an approved apparition."
I am simply bringing to your attention that you are referencing a “secret” that is not the original, genuine “secret of La Salette.”

Suit yourself; I was under the impression that this was a discussion board. 🤷
You said,

“you have apparently been given special knowledge of its approach (as knowledge of the Antichrist’s existence, let alone identity, would be)?”

And I said no, I am not special. You disagree. What can I do about that? I’m not special. I know the identity of the AntiChrist, and so should you. Just because you don’t know it now, does not mean you will not learn it. And that won’t make you special either, it will simply make you informed.

You’ve been posting here longer than me. If you know where I should post about a supernatural phenomenon that the Church has not pronounced as authentic, please tell me, and I’ll go there. Otherwise, I am going to wait for a mod to tell me it’s OK to post about it here, and that I won’t get banned for doing so.

Why do you need to know anyway? The information isn’t going to help you to pray the rosary, and what you should be doing now is praying the rosary.

It is just absurd, from my perspective, to witness all the idle speculation about his identity when he has already been revealed in his time.

I did not forget what I wrote. But this thread is about the AntiChrist, not about LaSalette.

Why not discuss this on another forum and just link to it from here? that way no forum rules are violated, we save the mods one heck of a headache, and we get this conversation moving again.

You said,

1.) I haven’t been posting here longer than you. You have 6 more posts than I, and apparently have been a member here for 8 more years than I have.

2.) I don’t need to know. As I think I’ve made pretty clear, I hold with the Church’s assertion that only God the Father knows the appointed hour. That’s good enough for me as far as eschatological business goes, especially since many of our brothers and sisters around the world have already been living in a state of suffering for such a long period of time. I’m not a fan of the popular notion that the End Times begin when those of us in the western world start to suffer.

3.) My assertion of “special knowledge” is based on your assuredness that the Antichrist’s identity is apparently evident when the Church has not seen fit to declare it so. It is my hope that were such evil to come upon us, the Church would be the first to warn us.

4.) My wife and I both pray the Rosary, but thank you for your concern.

This is not about LaSalette.
This thread is about the antichrist but YOU made it about La Salette. I had to correct you on the fact that you were referencing the revised, prohibited “secret of La Salette” in order to incorrectly peddle the notion that “Rome is the seat of the Antichrist.”

Now, you claim that you are privy to the identity of the antichrist. That’s interesting for the simple fact that throughout the course of history many have claimed to know the identity of the antichrist. Some said it was Nero. Then they said it was Napoleon. Then Hitler. Now Barack Obama. Now you are saying that you know who he is. But really, if you are so sure that you know the identity of antichrist, then just say who it is you think he is (this after is a thread on the Antichrist) so that we can evaluate your claim in light of Catholic eschatology.

Anyone familiar with Catholic eschatology knows that certain events must take place BEFORE the coming of Antichrist. We know from the Book of Revelation, and from Old Testament prophecies, and from St. Paul, many details about the Antichrist, the events which precede his rise to power, his faked miracles, his final demise and many other things. As with the coming of the true Messiah, what we do not know is when. But we have signs to look for, just as the Chosen People has signs by which to recognize the Messiah when he arrived.

Anyone familiar with Catholic eschatology also knows that at some point in the near future, the corrupt faithless age we live in now will come to an end either through repentance (immediately followed by the Age of Peace) - or there will be a chastisment. This would be a Minor Chastisement preceding the Age of Peace. It is not the Tribulation of the Antichrist. The Minor Chastisment and Age of Peace are a recurring them in Church-approved private prophecy and were alluded to at Fatima and Akita. The Minor Chastisement and Age of Peace occur BEFORE the rise of Antichrist.

According to the Scriputure and Tradition (especially the writings of the Fathers of the Church) PRIOR to the coming of Antichrist, there will be a False Prophet who will precede him, the appearance of the man destined to be his herald. The False Prophet will ape the role of John the Baptist. Also PRIOR to the rise of Antichrist will be the appearance of a Great Military Leader, who will help to prepare the way for him, who will be in the field performing certain publicly recognizable acts for some time preceding Antichrist. Perhaps, JosephFG, you should name the False Prophet and Great Military Leader before you divulge the identity of Antichrist to us.

And then we have the statement from Saint Paul who tells us in 2nd Thessalonians, 2:6:

“And you know what is restraining him (the man of sin) now so that he may be revealed in his time.”

St. Paul does not elucidate further in that letter on what it is that restrains the coming of the Antichrist “now.” He simply says to the Thessalonians, “you know.” It is clear from this passage that the Thessalonians knew for certain, but from* Scripture alone* we know very little. Many of the “things” which St. Paul says he orally taught to his flocks (as well as the oral teachings of the other Apostles) were passed on “Traditum” to the Apostle’s disciples. They in turn passed them on to the Apostolic Fathers of the the Church, who in turn passed them on to later Fathers. That is patently provable from the following point: It is obvious from the context of Paul’s remark that is was common knowledge amongst the Christians of Thessalonica.

But we do not* know *today from Scripture what that specific thing is that restrains the coming of the Antichrist. St. Jerome, however, does refer to a “common tradition” amongst the Fathers as to what “restrains him.” And the vast majority of the Fathers who wrote on the subject specifically tell us through Tradition that what restrains the Antichrist’s coming is the final destruction of an Empire, which they interpreted to be a Roman Empire.

All of this must happen** BEFORE **the coming of the Antichrist.
