The Antichrist?

Is the Antichrist an actual person who will pop up in the future? We will he reign for 7 years?

I heard Father Mitch Pacwa answer this very question on his radio show last Wednesday. It was an interesting answer. Unfortunately, I cannot do him justice in trying to recite what he said, but hopefully I can provide a basis here that others than add on to.

The Antichirst is indeed a person. And, according to what Father Mitch said, there will be many. We can actually look through history and see some of them. Hitler, Napoleon, Stalin, all were antichrists.

I would love if someone could elaborate more on this and add WHY there are more than one.

Maybe you can find an archive of Father Mitch’s show from last Wednesday, because he explained it really well!

All of the Church Father’s seem to be in agreement that the Antichrist will indeed be a person.

Yes? and No…

Seven is the biblical number that means “perfect, fullness, complete” So it likely is NOT a literal time period.

As to who… It will be a LEADER who does not accomplish his evilness by himself.

Add Nero - Apparently, his name ends up being “666” in numerological reckoning in either Hebrew or Greek, and the Romans believed he would rise from the dead in spite of having been stabbed in the head…

However, during “The End of Days”, there will be a “Son of Perdition” who will be worse than all of those listed and will be endowed with unrestrained Satanic power. He will be able to deceive hundreds of millions, even some of the “Elect”, and he will cause men and women to worship him and his image. I don’t know what that worship entails, whether that means the literal burning of incense or the placing of his “image” in our homes and on our persons & possessions.

We do know not to want the Day of the Lord, because,

With the Lord saying something like that, I don’t go around saying how much I want to see the Last Days. I also think we should look at what our Lord said…
For then there will be great tribulation, such as has not been from the beginning of the world until now, no, and never will be. And if those days had not been shortened, no human being would be saved; but for the sake of the elect those days will be shortened.

This one is the antichrist: he who denies the Father and the Son.

This is the deceiver and the antichrist.

but also there is a spirit of antichrist:
1 John 4:3 but every spirit that does not confess Jesus,

Irenaeus, A Church father, writes about The Antichrist in connection with writings of Paul and Daniel (and many other fathers, like Augustine in his homily on 1 John ch2, also write about antichrist)

   Are these verses from 1 and 2 John not aimed at Gnostics and Judaisers? If so, they died out more or less in the Fifth Century.

This passage from Irenaeus could fit almost any egomaniacal politician, businessperson or ‘popular entertainer’ on the planet.

We’ll just have to keep our eyes and ears open, and our wits about us! This is above all true in our day of instant personal communications technologies, when people can easily be misled in their masses by any “man of sin … the son of perdition, who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God”.
