The Antipope: Where It Began?

This we all have heard, but is it true???
where in the bible or in the apparitions of JESUS/MARY it is said that there will be an antipope that will give way to the antichrist…the bible said: the powers of hell will not prevail against her (the church) and if the antipope came, that said that the powers of hell prevail.

please instruct me…
 
An anti-pope giving way to an anti-Christ, as far as I know, is only Protestant bunk, coming from bizzare interpretations of Revelations.
 
Perhaps this verse…
Thess 2:1-3
1.Now we beseech you, brethren, by the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, and by our gathering together unto him,

2 That ye be not soon shaken in mind, or be troubled, neither by spirit, nor by word, nor by letter as from us, as that the day of Christ is at hand.

3 Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition;

But you’d have to really stretch it from there. Falling away leads to second coming, but… nothing about anti-popes. Pehaps you could say the falling away (some sort of ‘apostasy’ maybe) would include that sort of thing. But that is grasping at straws. I’m not sure there is any sort of biblical support for this.

can you explain this to me??
 
Ah, Miguel, I edited in my interpretation about how someone might possibly take that and make it say something else. I don’t think it really does support it, though.

Why are you interested? Has someone challenged you on this point?

thank God no challenge but here in hometown its wide spread belive, but as always i always investigating rumors (this one some people said that it comes from Fatima, some others said that Medgigorie, how do i spell that…HORRIBLY!!!

Oh, Medjugorge? I think that’s the spelling. Or Medjugoje. You know what’s a hard word… eighths! I always have to pause to spell that one. And since I’ve been doing college stuff lately, “curriculum!” Actually, they’re getting easier. 😛

I’d investigate the various secrets of Fatima. I doubt they are in there. And Medjugorge is pretty much denied by Church authorities. A local bishops’s synod shot down the idea that it was a real apparation.
 
It’s Medjugorje, or Međugorje, depending on whether you look up the đ on the character map. Spelled just like it sounds, if you remember that in Croatian, the J is like a Y (which is why Yugoslavia is sometimes spelled Jugoslavia).
 
The Apparations you are thinking of were the Bayside visions of “Our Lady of the Roses” which have been comdemned by the church for decades. Now an antipope is someone who claims to be pope when there already is a elected pope in the Holy See we’ve had quite a few of them throughout history with a few today claiming to be the “true pope” look her for more info: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Antipope

I’ve seen this on various Marian apparition sites. Not sure which ones. I have to say that it cannot be ruled out especially with the pro-women priesthood movement and all those clamoring for changes in contraception and allowing of homosexuals. These people are radical and will do what it takes to get their agenda through. I faced about a dozen of them a couple of weeks ago. Radical feminist Catholics who wanted women not only in the priesthood but as bishops and even POPE! I am sad to say that I know a good number (though not a majority I don’t think) of priests who would go along with them. I do think it possible, though perhaps improbable. Early on there were quite a few anitpopes and there is no reason to say it cannot happen again. All I am saying is don’t be surprized or rule it out.

Could not a nominally Catholic prelate serve as the Antichrist’s prophet yet not claim(no validly elected Pope could ever teach heresy, and, thus, can never be the Antichrist or False Prophet) the Papacy?
 
I’m not 100% on this but I think this comes from Nostradamus “Black Pope” prediction.
(Yawn… next!) 😉

Nowhere in the Bible or apparitions does the Catholic Church teach that there will be an antipope.
