The patristic writers are the background for this. When you read even Catholic books like, Why Catholic Bibles are Bigger, you see a growing consensus that eventually results in their inclusion in the west but even a larger canon in the East. Like I said, I have yet to read where it was not considered in flux. It would also beg the question about when exactly do you believe the canon was set and what is the evidence for that?I think it’s more than possible. It was common to commision just the Psalms, for example. And there are oodles of NT volumes in print today. Neither of these editions prove that the compilers and the owners deny the canon.
