Today being the Solemnity of Sts. Peter and Paul, I note that today I need not fast nor abstain.
For our friends of the Orthodox and Eastern Churches, today marks the end of their Apostles’ Fast. This is the yearly fast that starts the 2nd Monday after Pentacost and lasts until the Feast of Sts. Peter and Paul.
At age 62, with all my health problems, I can still fast according to the Catholic Bishops’ guidelines for us Americans. And do. On all days except Sundays and Solemnities. But I sometimes wonder if I could undertake the stricter fasts.
Of course, if I did want to give it a try, I’d have to clear it with both my Spiritual Directer AND my Physician. So not right now, and maybe never.
