I just think it’s rude to screw somebody else out of a job that they really want. It wouldn’t have harmed Randall if she were hired; he wouldn’t even have had to work with her. He knows how much she wants that job, how hard she has worked for it. Then to say, “There’s only one Apprentice.” How selfish! He had just finished saying that the woman was excellent.

Of course before he won, he was very negative about Rebecca. Which is unfortunate in and of itself and even more unfortunate because Rebecca maintained a very positive “campaign” for herself.

I agree, Mr. Trump made a mistake in asking Randall that question.

I’m a little surprised a man of Trump’s experience and knowledge could have made such a mistake.
Donald’s question was no mistake. I think he really wanted to see what decision Randall would make. Donald also could have overridden the decision, but did not.

Donald had an interesting point on Larry King Live last night ( Rebecca and Randall were also on as well). He said that the hard-core business men (and I use that term in the generic androgynous meaning) agreed with Randall and only one should have been hired while the softies, less business minded people tended to be more compassionate and would have hired Rebecca also.

While neither are wrong, Trump’s point was that most successful, hard core business people do not run a business based on emotion.

That’s probably why I am posting on this forum everyday instead of reporting to a high pressure job. It’s just not the fiber I am made of.

Thats not how it goes in the business world. Trump probably figures he has one heck of an apprentice who is not a “yes man” and no pushover!
Yeah, but Trump likes “yes men”! He really likes to have his ego stroked. Remember how annooyed he was with Rebecca just because she didn’t greet him at his car when he arrived at the Yahoo fundraiser? It’s not the first time he’s been annoyed by such pettiness. He says it’s a sign of disrespect, but I would disagree with him at times and I sure don’t picture him doing such things for others.

I agree, Mr. Trump made a mistake in asking Randall that question. I suspect that Donald was in a very good mood, feeling that he would hire both, and he forgot that Randall might have a different perspective on the matter. Or he didn’t even consider the possiblity. As it went down, it made Mr. Trump look a little foolish.

I don’t know… it could be that he was looking for a different perspective from Randall on Rebecca and Randall’s unwillingness to continue with her in some form gave him that insight. Randall seems to really like Rebecca and want her to success, but just honestly feels she isn’t ready and that’s what he based his decision on. He also didn’t say don’t hire here ever - he said right here, right now, there’s only 1 winner and the winner is hired. He didn’t tie with Rebecca, so he shouldn’t have to share in the winner cup.

**I didn’t get the impression Rebecca was nodding her head in disrespect as much as a complete lack of surprise at Randall’s decision. **

And no questions to his subordinates about who he should hire. It was his decision and he clearly wanted them both.

I’m a little surprised a man of Trump’s experience and knowledge could have made such a mistake.

I don’t agree with that at all and Trump has been clear through all these shows that he doesn’t either. He makes it clear a large part of his success is because he’s smart enough to higher the best and then listen to the advice the best give him. What’s the point of busting your hiney to get the best people to work for you, if you don’t consult them?? How’s that smart or even good business sense??

Earlier in the evening, Mr. Trump asked Rebecca and Randal which project they wanted. When they both picked separate projects (Rebecca was probably hoping they would both be hired when she picked a different one than Randal) Mr. Trump said “That makes my decision easier”.

This clearly shows that he planned to hire them both. And he expected Randal to go along with the decision. Why else would he have asked him? Why would he ask a newly hired employee his opinion on who to hire? It was for appearance sake only.

As for what Mr. Trump is saying after the fact, this is just damage control. Saying that he respects Randal’s decision etc, that it showed a tough nosed businessman…in my opinion, this is not what Donald Trump really believes.

I doubt that Randal will work for Mr. Trump beyond the minimum period required to gloss things over. You don’t show up the boss when you have just been hired, and expect to stay long.

:hmmm: You do have a point.

I never thought about that either.

Randal disagreed with Mr. Trump in front of an audience of millions of people. Donald Trump has a huge ego and I’m sure he didn’t like that one bit. Should be interesting to see how long Randal works for The Donald.

Its not petiness. When a man like Donald Trump shows up to your fundraiser you greet him with the respect of a King because he IS there to judge you and your performance. Its a matter of respect. If Donald Trump were to show up at my office and the person in charge did not greet him at his car, that person would have been fired on the spot no questions ask.

Yes, I agree. Also Donald does have an ego and he does expect you to greet him accordingly. One knows this going into the game. If you wanna play in Donald’s court, you gotta know Donald’s rules

I thought he was there to judge how she did the job, not how well she kissed his hiney. I’d prefer my employees treat everyone with the utmost of respect and courtesy and do their job - I also expect professionals (certainly more so for successfull ones!) to be able to get from their car to the door without having to hold someone’s hand or get their ego stroked.

It’s not as though she made him wait in the rain on the curb or something for goodness sakes.😛 However, I can agree with this perspective. It’s not about respect/pettiness from such a perspective, it’s about knowing and following the rules of the game.
