If this were the case then you would have presented a logical set of statements that ends with this conclusion. The more that you argue this point the more you seem to be trying to justify yourself, the more credibility you loose.

I thought that you for real at first and had good intentions despite your intensity, I am sorry that I was wrong.
There’s nothing “dishonest” with first asserting a conclusion and then attempting to demonstrate it via dialogue. I believe you understand that your dishonesty charge, which is quite serious – hence why I felt necessary to reply – is itself dishonest and wrong. The way I was raised, it’s plainly unethical to fling charges of “dishonesty” casually or cavalierly, and I would not do so without very strong evidence. Perhaps you were taught differently, in which case I’m saddened.

Essentially the only way is spencelo’s way, if you don’t agree you are an advocate for animal cruelty and are completely immoral.
Yes indeed! How dare First Nations peoples put thier culture and indeed sustinence ahead of the rights of animals! They should starve instead, that would be so much nobler of them. Yes I am being sarcastic.

So, what do you think of what Spence said to my latest reply to him? O:
Sounds like you are on the list buddy.

Spence- You know I’m just kidding around with you. This thread reminds me of every discussion with my ex wife on any topic.

Not true! I have been reading every one. You are making a dent, friend! Have at it!

I’m just relaxing after my delicious lunch of air and diet coke. That is all that is left to ingest. Stupid canine teeth and molars…good for nothing!
I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to make you feel bad about eating plants.

Personally I eat them AND meat. I figure they may have feelings, they may have an unsophisticated community BUT it’s them or me. 👍

That doesn’t make me a serial killer. Despite spencelo’s repeated assertions. I will never kill another human being for food. It just won’t happen. So don’t worry everyone. Even if I like meat, I’m perfectly safe to hang out with.

Yes no Donner Party types here. Spencelo probably lives in a comfortable urban enviroment and simply can’t comprehend a rural way of life. Information is obtained thru the net and reading not by practical observation (as evidenced by his dismissal of experiences of those who have worked on farms, slaughterhouses etc.) Spence is the epitome of the modern urban enviromentalist.

I am not denegrating you Spence, I want you to come and experience first hand the reality of hunting and food production. The offer will always be open for you if you would like to come up to the Yukon meet with First Nations and others and learn first hand rather than just relying on studies and books by people who have no first hand knowledge. Learn by experience not just sound bites.

Thanks Hannibal!

Spence- I’m curious how you came to your current position on meat / veganism. Were you raised as a vegan?

My apologies for creating any discomfort to your sensibilities, but one has “to call em as I see em”

Thanks for the offer, but I believe you are missing the point. I don’t doubt that hunting can be a thrilling experience. The point is, if hunting is unethical, it doesn’t matter how much of a good time I might have doing it. I don’t need “first hand knowledge” of how fun hunting is to know it’s wrong: the same is true of other harmful and immoral behavior (e.g., rape, murder, etc).

Thanks Hannibal!

Nope. I came to my current position through studying the ethical issues surrounding the treatment of animals.

Same here: I call your dishonesty charge for what it is–ridiculous immoral behavior. In light of my previous comments, the appropriate thing for you to do is withdraw the charge and apologize.

My general reading of philosophy and taking an animal rights law course.
How far into the studying did you get when you decided to give up meat? Are you a lawyer now? I’m just curious…I’m not looking for an angle.

Note that you have no basis for any “morality” in that you can not believe that there could be a shared moral code among humanity, this concept, by necessity, would demand a Creator. In that you do not hold to any such belief system your assertion that my astute observation is immoral behavior is groundless and without substance.

Sorry to all for derailing the thread.

It didn’t take too long in my study – I recognized the power of the arguments fairly quickly. I’ll be taking the bar soon.

Good luck with the bar! There are a lot of lawyers in my family and passing the bar is always a good excuse for a celebration. You have to miss a good steak, eh? Be honest…

Since I’m not a theist, you apparently believe that excuses you from taking responsibility for unethical behavior; how convenient. You know what you did was wrong, and if you believe the morality that you claim to adhere, then you should do the right thing and unequivocally withdraw your dishonesty charge. Or is unethical behavior no longer unethical when directed at nontheists?
