The attributes of God: a discussion

I recently read a reflection that stated the best way to know God is to meditate on his attributes.

I thought this would be a great thread from which to draw meditations.

If you are willing, could you give a brief meditation on an attribute of God?

I’ll start: God is all merciful. His Divine Mercy is a free gift. He yearns for our humble apologies for sin. He longs to pour out his forgiveness. He sees our weakness and longs to heal us. Despite all the pain we cause him and the rejection, His boundless mercy calls to us. How He loves to give us mercy1

God’s unfathomable Power humbles me.

The universe is bigger and more complex than than our mind can comprehend.

We cannot relate to the huge size of galaxies and stars, nor can we understand their number in the terms of billions. No matter how deep we look into the edges of the universe, we can’t find the “edge” of it.

The distances are so vast that we talk about it in terms of light years.
I cannot comprehend “millions of light years”. My brain cannot wrap around something that is so large (a galaxy) that we can SEE it at a distance I cannot comprehend.

At the other end of the spectrum, we keep finding particles that are smaller and smaller and smaller. For all we know, the SMALLEST that something can be is infinite as well.

God does this specifically to show us His Might and Power.
And, the loving Being that He is, he gives us the knowledge and curiosity to investigate all this so we will not become bored.

I look forward to meeting the Author of the Laws of Physics face to face some day…

Today I’m thinking about the God’s perfect justice. He knows our hearts, our intentions. Only He can judge perfectly someone’s soul. We should be relieved that we don’t have the responsibility. Why is it such a temptation to judge the state of other’s souls?

His perfect justice demands satisfaction.

But He himself has supplied the means of satisfaction. All we have to do is accept the free gift.
