The pope can’t ban Eastern anaphorae.

It’s just that - shockingly! - only Easterners can use them.

Sheesh. It’s not brain surgery.
There is no ontological correspondence between churches and rites - some churches have not always used the same rite as they use today, and clerics of one church can most certainly use the rites of another church, it’s just that they typically need *permission *to do so. The rite used by any particular cleric is something, although stemming from tradition, that is a legislated matter because authorities can allow for a derogation of it. Jesuits with their Eastern missions are especially known examples of Latin priests who could and can - shockingly! - use Eastern anaphorae.

Sheesh. It’s not brain surgery.

Arieh-
Isn’t this a great read? I just finished it myself. And, your question is a good one. Gamber posits that the NO has actually evolved into a rite unto itself, and that the NO and TLM should be able to coexist. But, to call the NO THE Liturgy of the Roman Catholic Church might not be totally correct.

This is must-reading for anyone who might suggest that the NO experiment is harmless, and represents an improvement. He presents lots of evidence that the current direction of the Church is not the right one, and that the TLM should be able to said as often as the NO. And, this book was written over 20 years ago. Imagine how much worse the abuses have become in that time.

Enjoy the rest of the book.

A Jesuit in an Eastern mission could become biritual.

Don’t obfuscate. The point of this thread’s question has become the Roman Canon.

The Roman Canon isn’t mere discipline that a pope could erase tomorrow. It’s a bit weighter than that.

And Latin-rite priests given authority to use them…from who, the pope(?)
