What is the basic human right? In some people’s view is that the right to existence and development are the essential human rights. What the country should do is to consider the development and strengthen its comprehensive national power and improvement of its people’s living standard. Only by this way can a nation achieve its existence, development and safeguard any other basic rights of its people.
To the Chinese people, they should develop education, science and culture so that the overall ideological, cultural and ethical cultivation can be further improved by mastering the scientific world-view and methodology as well as knowledge in modern science.
Some people in the world doesn’t think so. He proclaims that he is the centre of universe and can control everyything. So, the modern science is denounced, he thinks that “Humankind’s modern science has in fact developed on a wrong foundation, with a wrong understanding of the universe, humankind, and life. That’s why in the world of cultivation we cultivators don’t agree with today’s science at all and think that it’s a mistake.”
If people follow his theory, the world can not develop.

hmm… I am not so sure. Are you saying that an individual’s right to existence and personal development are human rights? Or are you saying that individuals have rights only because the government grants them and is able to maintain civil order?

I mean the first thing the people should have is existence and development, which is the first thing which a human being should get. As the leaders of a country, they should consider how to improve the citizens’ living standard, try to make people’s life better and better.

Yes, I agree that the economic well being of the citizens is a primary importance to the government. However, I think human rights are separate from economic well being.

Hello littlefisherman. Interesting philosophical discussion you got going here.

Every government is formed because of man’s desire to improve the human condition. The problem is - everybody has a different idea of how that is achieved.

Even Lucifer and Jesus Christ had different ideas of how that is done… and they’re both hearing the “plan” first hand from the Father. How much more for us mere mortals who do not see beyond our history?

Basic human rights is subjective. Those who believe in God also believe that humans have basic rights granted by God. Those who do not believe in God have a different idea of what that is… Right to life? Who says?

yes, every nation has its own opinion about the human right. But I think the basic human right is obtaining the right to live in the world. Either the people who believe in God or not.
So, there should be less wars, less terrorism.

I agree with you there. Unfortunately, not all people do. The problem is, for those who believe that the right to life is a basic human right, who guarantees it? There has to be something/someone who will fight to defend that right from those who do not believe it. And that defense might cost you a life. So, yeah, I can see how this can’t result to lesser wars or lesser terrorism.

A human right to us is different than a human right to a person living under Islam.

I read a big joke yesterday or the day before - the UN Human Rights Commission wanted to appoint Col. Qaddafi to it. And slavery still exists in some countries such as Saudi Arabia because they believe it will bring a disturbance to their society if they stop it. And some countries have tried to raise the age of child marriages (sometimes baby marriages as young as 1 year old), and the Islamic Scholars complain that it was unislamic.

So what we have is how do different countries, and it seems religions, define human rights.

There is no golden rule in Islam. There is no ‘treat others as you would want to be treated’. If one is not a Muslim then pretty much anything flies. They are not given any freedoms because they have not accepted allah and Mohammed. No Jew is even allowed in Saudi Arabia. Any others are not allowed to build their churches or temples, or show signs of any other religion in Saudi Arabia.

No one really holds the human rights disasters in the countries that have the problems responsible. They usually let it pass. They might make a sanction or a law but the ones who are the abusers don’t obey them anyway. Instead they work via the UN to shut us up as the Saudis have done with blasphemy laws (no one can speak against Islam). Well, the USA (so far) doesn’t obey that since it is against the 1st Amendment. But as we can see there are other ways to shut people up. The death threats against the cartoonists, or the lawsuits against people such as Michael Savage and the people in the ‘Flying Imam’s case’. There are many, many more lawsuits or threats that fly that we do not hear about.

And then there are communist nations that I think are very similar to Muslim countries. I am talking about the more cruel ones like N. Korea.
