The beast is on the loose! Are we to blame?

No doubt we have all noticed the rise in heinous crimes, child abductions/muders/assaults, disgraceful behavior by clergy, blasphemy, pornography, sins against nature (homosexual and heterosexual). This does not even take into account the most heinous crime of all, abortions in the millions. Selective euthanasia, men and women breaking their marriage vows through divorce and adultery. And perhaps the most serious problem, those millions of Catholics who do not realize that they have already ex-communicated themselves from the Church by their tacit support for the many evils!

God, Who has the power over the devil, also has the power to extend the leash that he has over him thus allowing him to run rampant throughout our evil society. If we create an atmosphere for the devil to flourish, then why should we be surprised if he wants more, and more.

What is it going to take? A Marian apparition where Our Lady instructs the world to pray for the conversion of America? Rest assured the timetable will be much shorter than Fatima.

Remember, when America was a good and God fearing county, God through the power of his Mighty Angels protected us from the wrath of nature. Hurricanes, floods, fires, heat, cold are only the beginning. There are far greater catastrophes looming on the horizon!
 
We are to blame, ever since Eve ate of the tree. All those things you mention have been with us since then-both the heinous crime and the natural disasters. These are nothing new, and it’s not just America.

But the Good News is that God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, that whosoever believes in him shall not perish, but have eternal life.

Focus on God and Christ, and pray, brother, for the conversion of all souls, not just Americans. We are the problem (humans), God and Christ are the solution.

I am unaware of any canon imposing the penalty of excommunication (*latae sententiae *at that) for “tacit support” of any number of evils?

No, I don’t remember that time. The history books I was taught from must have left that golden age out.

I understand that the sin and hardship we witness in our own lives certainly seems more powerful than that which we read about in generations past. But, indeed, there is nothing new under the sun.

Prayer, repentance, and good works are always appropriate, not so that we will be protected, or receive special blessings, but because they are the right thing to do.
 
Pray for the repentance of all mankind, but starts with praying for the repentance of America, especially with the election year coming!:signofcross:

Sorry, I forgot to list some of them: ie., abortion, euthanasia(Terri Schiavo), support of homosexual marriage. To list a few.
 
Don’t be down hearted. The Light of the World is in the world and nothing can extinguish it, so no matter how evil may multiply it cannot have victory; Victory belongs to God and those who are united to Him by His Way and His Cross.

I agree that evil appears to be multiplying and it isn’t just America, it is everywhere and maybe we only are more aware of it these days because the world is so accessible and we can learn of what is happening far away in other countries whereas years ago this was not possible like it is on the scale the media can report now. Evil has been active since the fall in this world and it will continue to be until men seek to build heaven on earth instead of hell on earth.

We must not be afraid or down hearted about all the evil things our eyes are forced to witness daily. But we must continue to pray and offer penance for the Peace of Jesus for the entire world.

St Paul said the ‘whole earth labours’ and we must listen to what is being manifest in the world around us in nature because we can visibly see the result of our greed, power and indifference. But it is not too late if we listen now and we must not be afraid, but hold our heads up high and work for our salvation in Jesus by prayer, good works and stewardship because it is through the Church, that is God’s Children that God will sanctify the world.

I don’t believe in messages of doom, there is only the Good News and this is what we are to witness to and profess as Catholics with our lives. We must draw close to the Cross of Jesus and cling to it and not be afraid.

Quit obsessing over end-times, people! It’s a waste of your time (God’s time) and your life (God’s gift) and verging on an un-Christian desire to control the future.

All of these sins - every SINGLE last one of 'em - have been with us from the beginning. Read the first five books of the Bible you’ll come across all of 'em and commandments against most all of 'em too. Remember God DID destroy the people of the world in Noah’s time for their sins - clearly they were as bad as us at least!

What possible difference can it make to you or I when the world will end? Either or both of us could be dead tomorrow or next week. And no-one knows the day and hour, not even the Son - are you claiming to greater knowledge than He?

Simply,trust in God, and prepare your soul so that you are as ready as possible to meet Him, whenever that be. And yes, pray for the conversion of sinners - we all should do in any event, are we not all sinners? But in joyful hope, as we are reminded at every Mass, not fear or despair.

Of course you are right in all you say but Jesus did not say it was wrong to look at the signs of the times, prophets are simply people who with God’s grace look at the signs of the time and apply them within their time subject to the Gospel. Jesus told us to look and take note of the signs of the times, but you are right He told us not to speculate on the hour of the end because no-one knows that and I say thank God we don’t know.

He said no-one will know and that it will come upon us like a thief in the night. Meaning little or no signs of any kind, to my humble understanding.

Me either. Automatic excommunication is for formally cooperating in an abortion. I don’t know what is meant by tacit support and if there is automatic excom for it.

I don’t think this is what Jesus meant. Jesus spent a long time describing events and told the reader to know that the end was approaching when these signs were in place. I don’t think Jesus did this for no reason, Jesus doesn’t say a single word without a world of meaning and He also doesn’t give the same gifts to all his children so if one has a gift all are happy for it because it is for the Body and not for the receiver of the gift. When these signs are in place it doesn’t mean the end will come in that day, or that year or that decade and so on, but once these signs are in place the end is coming and Jesus will come as He described but for our own good the Father has not revealed the hour and I believe that is because the hour may be delayed. This is how I see it.

I’ll have to differ on that. To me ‘thief in the night’ means precisely that. A thief doesn’t ever broadcast that he’s on his way to your house - certainly not well in advance, and if he does his job properly not ever!!!

There are a couple of options (these are from the NIV translation, it’s probably clearer in others):

Matthew 24:43-44 "But understand this: If the owner of the house had known at what time of night the thief was coming, he would have kept watch and would not have let his house be broken into. So you also must be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect him.

Luke 12:39-40 “But understand this: If the owner of the house had known at what hour the thief was coming, he would not have let his house be broken into. You also must be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect him.”

1 Thessalonians 5:2-4 “For you know very well that the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night.”

2 Peter 3:10 “But the day of the Lord will come like a thief. The heavens will disappear with a roar; the elements will be destroyed by fire, and the earth and everything in it will be laid bare.”

Revelation 3:3 “Remember, therefore, what you have received and heard; obey it, and repent. But if you do not wake up, I will come like a thief, and you will not know at what time I will come to you.”

Revelation 16:15 “Behold, I come like a thief! Blessed is he who stays awake and keeps his clothes with him, so that he may not go naked and be shamefully exposed.”

Jesus Himself says ‘See to it that you are not deceived’ and then goes on to give a course of events and to warn of false prophets but does not give a timescale.
 
Pertaining to the op. I’m not sure how long it has been here, I guess since he was cast out of heaven. I don’t know if it is coming to a head in the near future or not. But I do know it has permiated the earth and is an offense to the Lord. This I’ve felt and was shocked. But I’m a new guy to this. Tim
