Oh my - that is a lovely church!
Wow! Beautiful! Goes to show you that new churches can still be traditional-looking and beautiful at the same time.
yeah my sentiments exactly. I was very happy that they chose a more traditional look and feel. There are areas that look a little more contemporary, but it is quite traditional at its core. Very happy to see that modern parishes still want to build more traditional church buildings. Praise GodWow! Beautiful! Wow!!! St. Stephen’s is so gorgeous!!! The stained glass in Sacred Heart is beautiful as well. I’m glad to see that they are trying to restore it back to its original interior. Here are two Churches in New Jersey.
St. Stephen’s in Perth Amboy is my old home Parish. Dedicated in 1915 and built by Polish immigrants, it has not substantially changed since that time. There are various recent pictures on their web site

Sacred Heart in Carteret was founded by Slovak immigrants to the area including my great-grandparents. I was married in this church in 2007. Recently efforts have been underway to restore the church to its original look.

Why is this Church going to be closed in 2010?These are some photos of my parish St. Mary in Akron, Ohio taken at Christmas time. The church is to be closed June 27, 2010.
A couple photos showing the main alter adorned with poinsettias, the beautifully painted fresco over the main alter and the Blessed Mother’s alcove and the exterior of the front of the church. next to the church is the school which will remain open.
That is a beautiful sanctuary. Is Sunday Mass celebrated at the high altar?St Mary’s of the Annunciation Parish in Rockwood MI. The altar rail and a new ambo will be back soon.

As the other poster noted there are several churches closing in the Cleveland diocese. I have many unanswered questions about why St.Mary’s is closing and no doubt it could be a thread in itself. Why is this Church going to be closed in 2010?
This is so sad about these inner city churches closing. I understand why, but it’s too bad that the cities can’t have some sort of revival, as most of the historic architecture is contained in them, not just churches. It’s like we are losing our history when we abandon them.As the other poster noted there are several churches closing in the Cleveland diocese. St. Mary’s is a beautiful church inside as these photos show. Her marble columns and stone inlays and vaulted ceiling give her amphitheater sound quality. She still retains her communion rail and generally speaking is a traditional/conservative catholic church. It’s one of a few churches that I know of that has the Latin Rite mass (1pm on Sundays) which I think follows the 1962 missal. It has proud history starting out as mission church. The school will remain open, which is quite surprising actually considering the church is financially better off than the school. I was born and raised in this parish so it will be very difficult to leave and go somewhere else. We will be merging with St. Bernard’s.![]()
