👋 Hi! Yes my list has grown quite large since I started looking at this thread! I’m not sure there are enough days left in my life to see them all. But I didn’t realize how many of them are right here in the US. Most of the churches I’ve personally seen were built in the 70s and are um…typical of that era. 🙂 I did visit one for one of the RCIA rites that was built more recently and it was quite nice, but nothing like the ones posted on here. sthelenchurch.org/ It very much had the feel of a boat inside, but didn’t feel as cramped inside as the church I now attend, which has low ceilings and is all dark wood inside with very few stained glass windows. This church had very high ceilings and lots of light comes in through their stained glass windows. It’s certainly not on the level of most of the churches on this thread, but it’s the prettiest one I’ve been to personally.
eeek…cul-de-sac chic somehow doesn’t translate well into church architecture.:crying:

That looks like the entry way for a suburban, corporate office complex.

Oh but the pots are a nice touch. :o

Here’s a suggestion/request …

Why not just accept the photos as an expression of the beauty that others see in them and avoid the ridicule?

In developing taste and discretion, one should learn when to hold a critical word, even when one disagrees.

There’s a lot to like about it, in my opinion. I think it has a monastic feel. I like the floor and the steps and the stone-look on the back wall. I’ve seen many pre-Vatican II churches which were much less tasteful.

I second that 👍

There have been a few pictures posted on here that were less to my liking (that “boneyard” church comes to mind!) but hey it’s our differences that make the world interesting. And for some of us that will never have the opportunity to travel the world, we have to find beauty in the local churches we’re blessed with. After all, I’d rather be in the ugliest Catholic church in the world than anywhere else!!!

Here is the National Shrine of Our Lady of Lourdes in Quezon City, Philippines. It was the parish my husband went to until he moved to the United States.

This link is to a picture of the interior of the church from much further back.

Hey, I posted that

Just kidding, I know it isn’t everyone’s cup of tea 🙂

Exactly! 👍

We have to find the beauty in the churches we have been blessed with – that is great. It’s also a secret for all of life – find the beauty in it.

It’s like the crucifix itself. We see the beauty in something which is truly ugly and horrible – because we can see the love of God in the meaning of it.

For me, I’d rather be in the ugliest Catholic Church than any other beautiful building in the world – and I’ve learned that there is actually more beauty there also in what it means and what it actually does.

Um, did I say less? I meant more! Yes, more to my liking! In fact it’s my favorite church out of all the ones in this thread!
Seriously, no offense meant. :blushing: It was only an example, there’s others on here I haven’t been too fond of, but wow, that one sure was memorable! I doubt I’ll ever forget it!

Don’t worry, I was just pulling your leg 🙂

I spent 5 hours a day, every day, for one month memorizing every bone in the human body. Ever since then, I’ve loved bones :hypno:

Back to the thread topic!

When my school band went to MusicFest in Ottawa, we attended Mass here:

More importantly, where’s the tabernacle???
What picture do you mean? If it’s a recently posted one I can’t find it. At first I thought you meant the Byzantine Catholic Church above, but I like it with all the beautiful art. I love how they have the sanctuary behind the screen.

Clicking the links in your quoted text doesn’t find the picture either. Could you link us to the picture?

Keep posting your beautiful parishes; I love this thread!!

Sorry, the pic I was referring to was about 15-20 pages back. I’ll try to locate it.
