And tomorrow, Sept. 15, is the feast of Our Lady of Sorrows. This is truly a beautiful church. If you look in youtube for Catholic masses, you’ll find a black-and-white entry of the Mass of the Resurrection, IRIC, celebrated around the 1940s or early 50s. The narrator was then-Monsignor Fulton Sheen and, of course, it was in Latin. It was filmed at Our Lady of Sorrows which, at the time, was very well-attended. During WWII and even afterwards, they would hold several rosary devotions because people would be lined up to get in! Would that we have such a problem today! If you visit, you’ll notice the wear of the marble flooring in the aisles. Today, it has very few parishoners and is maintained, I believe, by the Servites. It is also the site of the National Shrine of St. Peregrine, patron of cancer patients. Our Lady of Sorrows Basilica and National Shrine, Chicago, Illinois.
