Hey All,

I have started a YouTube show called Going Places, and the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist in Lafayette, LA was my first stop. I gave a little history of the church, and we walked around the outside of the church, the inside, the cemetery, and the St. John’s Live Oak. Such an amazing church right here in Acadiana! I hope you enjoy my video!

Great job. Are there other Catholic Churches in Lafayette or other cities in Louisana that you could do? Someone did a seriers on “City of Churches” in New York and that was very interesting, too. youtube.com/watch?v=w-UNbRWiazo

Love that Icelandic church, so clean looking.
And those Italian cathedrals - wow, what amazing shots of the inverted domes. Incredible!
I know 🙂 I haven’t seen one like it before, it’s quite geometric and the lines seem sort of parallel. Yes there amazing, all off flickr! Do you have a favourite photo of a church? I think even after all the ones I’ve seen it’ll have to be St Pete’s basillica.🙂

What a beautiful new church building!!!
Indeed it is. 🙂 I posted earlier Holy Trinity Church’s pictures. The parochial (Fr. Peffly) vicar of St. John the Apostle was the pastor of Holy Trinity.

How far is that from the old downtown Leesburg? I remember seeing a little Catholic Church there when I visited my son when he lived there about 5 years ago.

Right on the outskirts of downtown. Probably at the same site. After that you’re heading towards Lucketts on route 15.

I hope I have managed to post a picture of our parish church St Joseph’s

I think St. Mary’s in Plantersville (small rural town north of Houston) is lovely. smsj.org/

St. Joseph in Stoneham is nice too.

Texas has a unique array of “painted churches,” which were established by immigrants who usually could not afford statues and expensive decor. Instead, they painted the interiors. The result is lovely. Most of these churches are in rural areas. I haven’t seen any personally, but I really want to go on a tour.

I love the painted churches, but I have only seen one near Karnes City. It seems these churches were mostly built by Czechs and Poles at least the ones closer to Corpus than Houston.
