I know of a woman. She is a convert to the faith in my Parish and I have been compelled to watch her everytime I see her. She is beautiful.
To stand near her is to be happy, isn’t that a beautiful quality to have?
This woman isn’t clever, this woman isn’t a model, this woman isn’t rich, this woman isn’t educated in her faith, this woman doesn’t pray noticeably, this woman doesn’t ask anything of anyone, this woman gives of herself, this woman has no esteem about herself, this woman always has a smile, this woman always asks after people, this woman always remembers little details.
This woman is like a gentle breeze to be near.
This woman is so distant from the ‘self’ she is like a light feather and gentler still.
I won’t say who this woman is because she doesn’t know I think all these things about her. But I’ll tell you, people think she is a nobody, uneducated, unemployed, no-one to be esteemed. But I tell you she is a saint. I was at a jumble sale with her and I asked her if she liked any of the clothes, she smiled at me and said I like them all but I don’t want any. This is typically her, she didn’t see that some of the clothes were old and past their best, or were old fashioned, she saw the beauty of them all, but didn’t desire them.
Such simplicity, such beauty.
