I LOVE Christmas music! One of my biggest favorites is Josh Groban singing O Holy Night! That is such a beautiful song anyway but he sings it best I have heard him sing several awesome Christmas songs lately as well…The First Noel and Silent Night. He is amazing!
I SO agree on the crazy songs like Grandma got run over by a reindeer. Cant stand those nutty songs! LOL! I love the good ole Christmas caroles best!
And I want to wish everyone a very blessed and merry Christmas!
 
What about Baby It’s Cold Outside. Blech. That song would be cute if everybody who sang it didn’t make it sound dirty.

My favorite is Do You Hear What I Hear by anybody other than Whitney Houston. That song has been my favorite since I was little when I would make my mom echo me while I sang lol
 
My fave Christmas song is “O Holy Night” by Josh Groban. It’sd beautiful. He has such great talent.

The worst (and most annoying) is a song called “Last Christmas (I Gave You My Heart)”. I don’t know who sings it but it’s really not even about Christmas, it’s about heartbreak. I’ve only heard it on the popular Christmas stations but the problem is they play it like five times an hour!!! :eek:

I also recently saw the Trans Siberian Orchestra in concert, and the first half was dramatic oral interpretation and song (both traditional and original), all about Christmas, and very good; TSO sounds like a symphony but it’s not–it’s like a 80s hair band version of Mannheim Steamroller. I haven’t seen that much big hair since the 80s! They wear tux-tails, though, not spandex pants and shredded shirts. LOL They rock on classical music and the crowd loves it. I like how that gives young folks a taste of classical music–it’s like putting cheese sauce on to make the kids eat their vegetables. 😛 TSO was a great show, but I’m not sure I’d buy the CD.

I love TSO! I would definitely recommend their CDs. Of course, I like 80s hair bands and hard rock, too. 🙂 Plus, TSO was born out of one of my favorite bands (Savatage). They did a version of “Carol of the Bells” on one of their albums and it got so much (unexpected) radio airplay that they formed TSO and started making Christmas albums.

You saw them in concert? I’m jealous! 😉

Worst Single Song Every: Grandmom Got Runover by a Reindeer
Best CD in recent years: Diana Krall Christmas Songs Best *Jingle Bells *in years!
Runner Up: Harry Connick, Jr. When My Heart Finds Christmas Very good mix of secular and religious classics. Connick is a Catholic, by the way.

Well, not all nutty songs are bad 😃 there is the beach boys “Sleigh Dear” which is quite clever, and I think its Pedro the Christmas donkey and cant forget the White Boomers.

Its just the mean ones that are no fun.

I think that Mary DID know what was going on, but not what would ultimatley happen. It almost seems like a protestant song to say that Mary didnt know that her Son was special. Any thoughts??

I love this song! It is a bit haunting, but I don’t see it as questioning Mary’s understanding, but celebrating her and her Son. It is one of my favorite Christmas songs.

My other favorite is also a song about Mary: Breath of Heaven (by Amy Grant). It is from Mary’s point of view thinking about what is happening to her. I think it is beautiful.

Current least favorite (turn off the radio whenever I hear it!) is: Last Christmas. NOT a Christmas song. It is a throw-it-in your face broken romance song that happens to mention Christmas. Worst part about it: it actually has a catchy tune so it gets stuck in my head!

A lot of this sounds really awful, but hey, there’s no accounting for taste!

I admit to being amused by the comedians’ naughty Christmas songs on the Bob and Tom Show. “Let’s Put the X Back in Xmas” (about getting a videocamera and doing some, uh, personal videotaping), and “You Ain’t Gettin’ Jack This Christmas (Because You Really Screwed Up This Year)” are the two that I can think of off the top of my head. They are awful, but I laugh.

You’re right about that! I just read your post and now I already have the song stuck in my head! 😛

Speaking of crazy Christmas songs, Country is good for that. I don’t think anyone has mentioned “Leyroy, the Red-Necked Reindeer”, or “Santa Claus is Coming On a Boogie-Woogie Choo-Choo Train”. Good for a laugh maybe, but probably not fitting in with the whole reason for the season. 😉

LOL. Whenever this comes on the radio my son yells, “No, no they don’t know, Bob, they’re Muslims!” (Yes, I know there are Christians in Ethiopia, still makes me laugh.)
 
Another one on my bad list–Paul McCartney’s “Simply Having…”

Grates like fingernails on a chalk board.
 
I can’t remember if anyone has mentioned this in the “worst” category, but I would add “I saw Mama Kissing Santa Claus”.

I don’t know about anyone else, but this song truly scandalized me as a young boy who believed Santa Claus was real. How could Mommy kiss anyone but Daddy? And Santa Claus of all people! He’s supposed to be a stand-up guy!
 
Not necessarily a favorite but gave me a good laugh Friday at work listening to the radio:

“Twelve Pains of Christmas” Heavens this is so true especially with the referrences to shopping (I work in a mall and the crazies are out in full force right now). I personally liked the bit about hanging Christmas lights.

The station als played “Walking Round in Women’s Underwear” and considering where I work (not naming names) it would have been, hmm, appropriate for the location I work, if I had heard it.

Trust me, these beat the store CD played non-stop that has jazzed up, techno Christmas songs and Spice Girls.

That guy sounds like my husband: “RIGGING UP THE LIGHTS!!!” We don’t even put up lights any more. 🤷

Haven’t heard the women’s underwear song in a couple of years. Too bad. It was good for a few laughs.

The one I hate the most: Santa Baby. Nuff said.

Favorites: Sting singing “Gabriel’s Message”; Pavarotti singing “O Holy Night” in French.

And who can forget the late Robert Goulet’s rendition of “Panis Angelicus.” :angel1:

Youtube has both of those songs I mentioned. Just search the titles.
 
“Christmas Shoes” makes me gag! That has to be the dumbest, most inane song ever! But the author must be ho-ho-ho-ing all the way to the bank… books and movies from what has to be the most ludicrous “Little Drummer Boy” rip-off in history!

Is it obvious I don’t like that song?

However, when it comes to extremely NON-traditional Christmas songs, I am quite saddened that I have yet to hear “Snoopy’s Christmas” by the Kingsmen (I think) this year. Love that song! And I just have to hear “Rusty Chevrolet” by Da Yoopers (I think that’s what they’re called.)

Traditional carols–love Mannheim Steamrolller’s versions of “O Holy Night” and “Greensleeves”.

Josh Groban–👍 👍 👍 👍 👍 Anything he sings!

And if you like the song “The Gift” (the one about the little girl and the bird, not the Collin Raye/Susan Ashton/Jim Brickman love song), listen to Garth Brooks’ version… I like the fact that he sings “Now the Christmas Eve service was coming…” instead of “Now the gift-giving service was coming…” like the little girl sings.
