What is the best thing about the contemporary Church since the council in your opinion. Don’t kill each other over this. I’m just curious.

In my opinion, the best thing Vat. II did was to
translate the liturgy of the mass into the vernacular
from Latin!
The readings were already in the vernacular in almost all jurisdictions well before VII. The norm was to read them in Latin first and then repeat them in the vernacular. However, the three-year cycle was a major change as was the addition of a second reading before the Gospel.I don’t think this was decided AT the Council, but rather as a direct result of the Council…
The three year cycle of readings for Sunday Mass, and the readings in the vernacular. Very forward-thinking changes, in my opinion. I personally wouldn’t have changed anything else about the Mass; but I love that change. The Word needs to be heard and understood by the faithful. Since so few Catholics read the Bible; Holy Mass might be the only Scripture they get all week.
Not a bad thread, and I give you props for originality.![]()
To be precise, the Mass had already been translated into dozens of languages before Vatical II. I personally own Missals with French and English translations that pre-date the council by at least a decade. The change was that the translations could get the official endorsement of the Vatican and could be used, under some conditions, by both the celebrant and the congregation during Mass.In my opinion, the best thing Vat. This may also help you:Thanks for the responses. helped me alot
I agree.I don’t think this will probably be acceptable to discuss on here since there are many traditionalists (or just regular old Catholics before 1960’s) who would differ with nearly all of the “reforms” of Vatican 2. So, I don’t think its a good idea to discuss this and I will leave my opinions to myself
Pax.
Too bad. Traditionalists dish criticism all day long, they should be able to take criticism. If they can’t do that, they’re just being brittle.I don’t think this will probably be acceptable to discuss on here since there are many traditionalists (or just regular old Catholics before 1960’s) who would differ with nearly all of the “reforms” of Vatican 2. Vatican II shouldn’t be the main weapon, though. It is a highly complex set of documents which can’t really be limited to one or two things or covered in one forum, much less one thread. I say rephrase the title if anything. It’s very baiting the way it’s presented. We’ve had them before and they usually don’t end well.Too bad. I think asking for help with your homework is more problematic than any VII debate.I prefer the “old” rite better myself. I needed help with some questions for my religion class. The responses gave me some good ideas so thank y’all again. I know there are some who get firery about this subject so yall have answered my question and don’t have to discuss this if you don’t want to
