I thought it was good to see Saul in his persecuting day. And then the radical conversion but still driven.

Watched the first episode and half of the second and then gave up. I’ve seen better acting in grade school productions and the writing is execrable. Every line of dialogue ended in an exclamation point.

I love it! Last night Saul’s leaving (or actually being cicked away for his own safty) was so heartbreaking. When I think of how the apostles did it, they had to separate and go spread the gospel, it must be really painful being away from your brothers especially when you hear news of them being tortured and imprisoned and executed while you are far away from them. Of course Jesus fills us with joy and consolation. But it is still a very hard thing to fathom. I love how the show brings the saints to life. Makes me think I can’t wait to be in Heaven and I’ll have a lot of questions to Paul, Peter and many other saints.

I never liked her!
I like how they take that same zeal Saul used to persecute the Church now firing him up to even recklessly proclaim the Gospel. Also nice is the wisdom he shows early on, as if the Holy Spirit is already gifting him for the missions ahead. And while it’s a creative liberty, I also liked the way Saul comforted the just-beaten Tabitha with what would become the famous passage from Romans 8.
What I am looking forward to is how Cornelius gets to Joppa, meets Peter and converts. Right now, Cornelius may be the brutal Roman but he has already shown signs of decency.
I like it better than “The Bible”, because I think it takes less liberties with the Biblical account and the dialogue is not as outrageous.
But Leah still annoys me.

I agree! St. Paul seems to have more love for Christ the then others. It is because he who is forgiven much loves much. And I love that they are portraying just that in the show. Paul’s conversion is a huge inspiration to me. And to see it on TV makes it even better.
I don’t think Richard Coyle or Vincent Regan are slouches when it comes to acting. The rest are a bit of a mixed bag.

I look forward every week to watching it. I was confused at the character Maya as I never knew Peter was married and had a child.

Somewhat better then the other series.
It is not “the Bible” …but rather “based” “somewhat” on the Bible…
*WAY *too many changes.
It is one thing to fill in characters - add some interesting fictional aspects…is is quite another to change the Book of Acts.
I still will record and watch it…but it really is not Acts and does not represent the Characters in the best manner or the history…or the character of the Christians…
(that is not to say there is not good props and costumes and good acting and character development in many cases…)

I’m finding this show very entertaining. At first, I thought they must be making some things up, and maybe they are. However, I found the following quote in the Chronological Table section of my Jerusalem Bible:
“Caligula orders the erection of his statue in the Temple. Thanks to Petronius and Agrippa, the affair drags on until the assassination of Caligula.”
I also read in the old Catholic Encyclopedia that there are some traditions who believe that both Pilate and his wife, Claudia, ended up converting to Christianity. One of the Orthodox Churches considers them saints.
It will be interesting to see what happens to them in this series.

I don’t think there were many changes so much as additions, and I would hope so. It would not be interesting just seeing the words of scripture acted out. I am sure we have all seen enough of those movies. This adds things that, while not in the Bible, are possible.
I think we must also remember that even the Bible was not meant to give us an exact historical account of everything in it. It gives us theological truth not always historical truth. But I suppose that can be a debate, especially with fundamentalists.

As to the first - as I noted there are way too many.
As to the second - the Gospels and Acts do not give history (though they are historical and give history) in the* way *one might write it in the 21st century.
My points made above remain…and I wish they would have not done things the way they did…
But then again I wish the Hobbit was true to book too…the first of course being of greater import than the later.
