I would like to read all of the bible in one year, and also get some Catholic commentary with what I read to help me understand it. What is a good way to do this? I prefer small, daily readings. Are there any good books or podcasts that can assist me? Thank you very much.

How about in 90 days? try thisgreatadventureonline.com/ I took this seminar it was incredible. Jeff Cavins is great.

Hi Benjamin,

I just received “My Daily Catholic Bible (RSV)” from CatholicFamilyCatalog.com. The price was $21.95. It’s got 20 minutes of readings daily.

I look forward to using it.

With love,
George

** How in the world could someone think they can read the Bible in 90 days or even 1 year and grasp anything they read?
:whacky:
If the Holy Spirit is within the believer, it will take a lifetime of study, and then one would wish they had another lifetime to continue their study.

I’ve been studying Predestination weekly for nine years now. I’m also in a Book of Revelation study for nearly three.**

We know. You keep telling us that. Its a pity though you are studying something that does not exist because you have a pastor who thinks he knows better than 2000 years of the greatest theological minds.

It’s a discipline, yean. Ye:nope: neednae fear it will be too much. Just sit yourself down & read each day.
Ye might find it :yup: a fair treat. After all that o’ man’s teaching, like “predestination”, & such big words. Just rest yourself in the pure word of God for a change.
'Twas how I learned it, at my grandmother’s knee, so many years ago, & many a happy hour we spent so, her reading, & me listening…
Start with:) Mark 10:13-17. 'Twill do ye:thumbsup: gud, laddy.

Thistle; I don’t know why you continue to hold this position. I started a thread back in July called ‘Predestination is True’. After nearly a month of discussion, I came to the conclusion that what I’ve been studying does not contridict Church Doctrine . I owe much gratitude to JustDave1988 for providing many useful Catholic sources.

In the Jeff Cavins 90 day bible reading program you do not read every book of the bible. You would read fourteen books that will lead you chronologically through the story of salvation history, you read 4 chapters a day, and when you are through, then you can go back and really focus on the whole bible, or individual books.

The books which you would read are:
Genesis
Exodus
Numbers
Joshua
Judges
1&2 Samuel
1&2 Kings
Ezra
Nehemiah
1 Maccabees
Luke
Acts

If you don’t have the great adventure audio or video set you can download Jeff’s and Scott Hahn’s “Our Fathers Plan” which covers those books and really goes deep into Salvation History.
also in MP3 format

I have listened to this program several times, and it really helps to understand the overall view of the Bible. It really makes a lot of stuff make sense, you will know who the prophets are writing to, and it will make the psalms more meaningful since you know the story of King David.

I would recommend people listen to this and read these books before going on to study the bible deeper.

what is the magic about one year?
If you truly want to read the whole bible, begin at the beginning, read a manageable amount each day, 1-3 chapters, and go on until you reach the end.

If you do what most people do, get bogged down by the legal or historical books or some of the more esoteric prophets, and give up, get Our Father’s Plan by Scott Hahn and Jeff Cavins, or Jeff’s Great Bible Adventure, which are both great introductions to the Bible as Salvation History. Once you have experienced such an introduction, further reading and studies of particular books will have much more relevance and be eaiser to follow.

the time-tested Church approved way to cover the whole bible is to simply read and pray with the daily and Sunday lectionary readings. If your goal is to read every word of the bible, where the lectionary skips verses or chapters, read the intervening material as well for that particular book. For instance if today’s reading is from Exodus chapter 5, and tomorrow’s reading skips to Chap. 7, read chapter 6 as well today.
