what is the magic about one year?
If you truly want to read the whole bible, begin at the beginning, read a manageable amount each day, 1-3 chapters, and go on until you reach the end.
If you do what most people do, get bogged down by the legal or historical books or some of the more esoteric prophets, and give up, get Our Father’s Plan by Scott Hahn and Jeff Cavins, or Jeff’s Great Bible Adventure, which are both great introductions to the Bible as Salvation History. Once you have experienced such an introduction, further reading and studies of particular books will have much more relevance and be eaiser to follow.
the time-tested Church approved way to cover the whole bible is to simply read and pray with the daily and Sunday lectionary readings. If your goal is to read every word of the bible, where the lectionary skips verses or chapters, read the intervening material as well for that particular book. For instance if today’s reading is from Exodus chapter 5, and tomorrow’s reading skips to Chap. 7, read chapter 6 as well today.
