the Bible is full of contradictions.
How can this be explained?
For example, God is a loving, merciful God, but at the same time jealous, taking out vengeance, etc…

Hi GodtheBest (love your hande :-))

God is multimensional (just like us, made in His image).

Yes - God is “love” - but He is also Holy and just. Justice will demand that those who commit sin be held accountable. Out of his love and mercy, God offerrred His son as a sacrifice and atonement for our sin - for those who will accept it. For those who do not, they are held accountable for their own sins (not God’s sins).

I do not believe there are any contradictions in the bible - although it is often misunderstood and misinterpreted in a way that present contraditions in our own minds.

Blessings,

Brian

Hello GodsTheBest. The Bible can be kind of confusing at times. Thank goodness God speaks to us in more ways than just the Bible.

In the Catholic Church we have the magisterium and Sacred Tradition to guide us in addition to the Bible. This helps us in those times when the Bible seems to be confusing or contradicting. We have the Church, which God has promised he will guide with the truth. So you are definately in the right place to help answer your questions.

To answer your question it’s important to remember that God loves us and wants us to live good lives, worshiping Him and doing His will. He is always merciful and just.

God has to find ways to communicate with us. He will do whatever it takes to get through to us.

Throughout the ages God has had to find ways to communicate with us human beings. There was a time in our history when we simply weren’t intelligent enough to know what God was trying to teach us. So God conveyed His message by killing some of us. It seems harsh to us now, but that was what he had to do at that time.

There are many things that seem contradictory, but they can all be explained. The Catholic chruch has reasons for everything. What other seeming contractions can we help you with? Feel free to post them.

There are no contradictions in Scripture, only defficiantceis in our understanding of it which makes it seem like there are. It sounds like you’re just starting out with Bible study perhaps? Just be patient, get some good reference material’s and take your time studying.

There are many things that are difficult to understand, but it seems to me that the need and possibility of being both just and merciful, loving and angry should be part of the experience of anyone who has ever been a parent . . .
