The New Testament, when referring to the Old Testament, in no way relies on tradition for understanding it, but completely on the revelation itself.
The New Testament certainly uses Tradition in understanding the Old Testament.

Example: Scripture says that Joseph and Mary returned to Nazareth after their sojourn in Egypt, “that what was spoken by the prophets might be fulfilled, ‘He shall be called a Nazarene.’” (Matt. 2:23). All commentators admit that the phrase “He shall be called a Nazarene” is not found anywhere in the Old Testament. Yet Matthew tells us that the Holy Family fulfilled this prophecy, which had been passed on "by the prophets."Numerous other examples.

Except the above groups sprang up shortly after the brethren, and deny the deity of Christ. Satan seemed to recognize the attraction of simplistic non-sacramental movements. If I judge things by the hypocrisy or failure within those that take that faith, why would I even be a Christian with the history of the Christian profession?

“Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am chief.”
Oh! So those are the faux-Plymouth Brethren? How on earth can even our Father keep all of these thousands and thousands of tiny little churches sorted out? The point is that all denominations are the church of the ego. They have been founded by men using men’s ideas, and taking only the Catholic bible, and shredding even that. Some way to found a church! That is not following Christ’s example. I guess they have a better one…

It is only through humble obedience that the church Christ founded carries on. Each member of His church is a sinner, and yet you are surprised that some popes sinned? Really? All John 6:66 churches can try as they might, but they fall short of the church which has Christ in the Flesh. There is no substitute. But, what did you expect from a site where we not only love Jesus, but submit to Him and His church?

Christ’s peace.

This simply is not true.

This is not an example of tradition, but translation of the word. The word “Branch” in the OT was called “Nazarene” in the new by Greek speaking Jews. There are 4 Branch prophecies, which interestingly enough, correspond to the 4 gospels.

John’s gospel, Christ as the Son of God:

Isaiah 4:2
“In that day shall the branch of the LORD be beautiful and glorious, and the fruit of the earth shall be excellent and comely for them that are escaped of Israel.”

Matthew’s gospel, Christ the King:

Jer 23:5
“Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will raise unto David a righteous Branch, and a King shall reign and prosper, and shall execute judgment and justice in the earth.”

Mark’s gospel, Christ, Jehovah’s perfect Servant:

“Hear now, O Joshua the high priest, thou, and thy fellows that sit before thee: for they are men wondered at: for, behold, I will bring forth my servant the BRANCH.”

Luke’s gospel, Christ the Son of Man:

Zechariah 6:12
“And speak unto him, saying, Thus speaketh the LORD of hosts, saying, Behold the man whose name is The BRANCH; and he shall grow up out of his place, and he shall build the temple of the LORD:”

Blasphemy! Are you serious? God, who has every hair on your head numbered, and you would question his ability to know who is his, and what is what? God can sort these things out with His eyes closed.

Psalm 11:4
“The LORD is in his holy temple, the LORD’s throne is in heaven: his eyes behold, his eyelids try, the children of men.”

This is not an issue of what is “brethren” or not, but what constitutes the Church and Her authority.

Faithful Christians have been leaving the Roman Church for decades due to her idolatry, superstition, and undermining of the plain teaching of scripture regarding grace. Many have died for it, and many long before the reformation.

Is there not a path for faith based on Scripture? Is the Spirit of God still here? Has anything changed?

2 Tim 2:15-22

“Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. But shun profane and vain babblings: for they will increase unto more ungodliness. And their word will eat as doth a canker: of whom is Hymenaeus and Philetus; Who concerning the truth have erred, saying that the resurrection is past already; and overthrow the faith of some. Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are his. And, let every one that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity. But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and of silver, but also of wood and of earth; and some to honour, and some to dishonour. If a man therefore purge himself from these, he shall be a vessel unto honour, sanctified, and meet for the master’s use, and prepared unto every good work. Flee also youthful lusts: but follow righteousness, faith, charity, peace, with them that call on the Lord out of a pure heart.”

The Mormons claim to have inspired written revelation called the Book of Mormon. It also claims to be the inspired Word of God. How do you disprove that?? Because the Spirit of God told you?? A fervent Mormon feels the “burning in the bosom” that without doubt is God telling them that they have the truth. With only your Bible and your gift of interpretation prove to them that they are wrong. I would do anything to see that event…God Bless…teachccd

You have put tradition on par with scripture. They have added their feelings. But Scripture remains Scripture, and it works, even when people deny it or try to destroy it. Sometimes we don’t see the results until much later.

Founded a Church? The Roman Catholic Church is not THE Church. The Church was formed by the Spirit at Pentacost in Acts 2, and still goes on to this day though scattered.

Phillipians 3:20
“for our commonwealth has its existence in [the] heavens, from which also we await the Lord Jesus Christ [as] Saviour,”

“And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved.” Acts 2:47

2 Timothy 2:19
“Nevertheless the** foundation of God** standeth sure, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are his. And, let every one that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity.”

We are never welcome to form something new. We are part of the Church when we are sealed by the Spirit. Now what gives expression to that Church at a given locality is a matter of faith, and there is a path for faith. No creed (in addition to scripture) that excludes other Christians should be acknowledged as that place, Catholic or not. Catholicism has added to the Bible, excluding others. How can I have fellowship with you while you pray to a saint or bow to a wafer?

Exactly. I use the KJV primarily, but the Bible as the word of God was written in Greek, and this challenge has nothing to do with translation.

That is not correct. The OT was written in Hebrew, the NT was written mostly in Greek. Gospel of Matthew was likely written in Aramaic, and it is debatable whether Paul wrote to the Romans in Greek or Latin.

You are right. I meant the NT only. The old Testament is Hebrew except for the prophetic part of Daniel which was in Syraic. That’s not really what this thread is about, but you are indeed correct.

This was a question, and rhetorical at that. If He were here, He might certainly say “Those Plymouth Brethren are wound tighter than a cheap watch” or something similar. I used to hang out with a bunch known as “The Dodge Boys”. As I recall, they were a lot more fun. You must cut me some slack here. I am Irish and yet, do not drink. So, I must exercise my sense of humor.

I pray you are simply IGNORANT of what you criticize, and not intentionally lying. You will have at least a tiny amount of credibility if you take the time to actually learn about what you are bad-mouthing.

Numbers 21:8-9 (King James Version) And the LORD said unto Moses, Make thee a fiery serpent, and set it upon a pole: and it shall come to pass, that every one that is bitten, when he looketh upon it, shall live. And Moses made a serpent of brass, and put it upon a pole, and it came to pass, that if a serpent had bitten any man, when he beheld the serpent of brass, he lived.

Exodus 25:17-20 “And thou shalt make a mercy seat of pure gold: two cubits and a half shall be the length thereof, and a cubit and a half the breadth thereof. And thou shalt make two cherubims of gold, of beaten work shalt thou make them, in the two ends of the mercy seat. And make one cherub on the one end, and the other cherub on the other end: even of the mercy seat shall ye make the cherubims on the two ends thereof. And the cherubims shall stretch forth their wings on high, covering the mercy seat with their wings, and their faces shall look one to another; toward the mercy seat shall the faces of the cherubims be.”

The Lord had no problem with man-made images, even commanding them, as long as they served His purpose. So, by what authority do you judge the Church of Christ and its images, all of which are NOT WORSHIPPED and assist in the faith.

I hope you do some study. To those who are not sure of the PB, you could possibly come off sounding like a raving cultist.

Christ’s peace.

Being that you would dodge and ignore their responses as you do ours, I do believe that that would be futile.

Yes Scripture is written Tradition. See Luke 1:1-4. Please comment on that for your next reply to me. Oral Tradition WAS the Word of God given to those even before they were called “Christian” (The Way). There was no written Scripture (New Testament) for the first century Christians. And even looking forward, there were few who could read at that time and much was spread by word of mouth. And PLEASE tell me how Scripture was acknowledged and by who?? (New Testament)…teachccd

Your explanation is Tradition too. 🤷

Well, Mr. (or Mrs.?) idiopathogen has been banned from this distinguished forum as of late. No mystery as to why, considering the nonsensical gibberish he/she was posting. However, I’m sure he"ll (or she’ll) be back under a different username. They always come back…

Yes and when they do we should absolutely ignore them. I am at great fault for feeding into this guy’s agenda. This is not evagelization. It is allowing someone to jeopardize this forum with lies and frustration. Once they see that no one feeds into their garbage they will go away. Our fervency, however sincere it is, will do nothing for someone like this. He or she was on a rampage…teachccd

Unfortunately, another one jumps on the “banned wagon” We can only pray that something we said caused him/her to look into our faith with an iota of interest in the truth.

Christ’s peace, all.
