My son and I happened upon a YouTube page that summarizes each book of the Old Testament. This channel is called The Bible Project. Honestly, it’s very well done. One person narrates the story, while another person sketches out the story into picture form in hyper-fast-forward mode. A viewer can go to their website and download a free copy of the finalized sketches to review. While we watched the material covering the first five books of the OT, my son was completely glued to the screen. He wanted to watch several of the videos over and over so he could make sure he absorbed all the info.

I’ve searched for Catholic-based reviews of The Bible Project, but only found a transcript of a Q&A with the original founders of the site indicating they had no intention of producing videos covering the Deuterocanonical books (these guys are not Catholic). While this is a very impressive work, I’m curious if it is compatible with Catholic teaching. Initially, it appears to provide an objective overview of the OT story, but I can’t help but get the impression the author may build up to a not-so-Catholic conclusion when viewers reach the New Testament series.

Has anyone heard of this project and/or YouTube series? Good/Bad/Indifferent?

In all honestly, I’m hesitant of any Bible sites that are not run by orthodox Catholics, who are experts in Sacred Scripture.

In my experience, Catholic Bible studies are far better at providing the historical & cultural context surrounding the events in the Bible so we can BOTH academically & spiritually understand the Scriptures.

Protestants tend to focus only on “what is the Bible is saying to you?” (which is important - but without Sacred Tradition can lead to heretical ideas) and often take random verses out of context from the rest of the book, or entire Bible.

So even if a protestant Bible study isn’t directly anti-Catholic, it could pose a danger to a Catholic who is not well catechised.

I pray I’m making sense.

God Bless

Sorry for the old thread just wanted to share. I’ve started a complete read of the Bible from cover to cover, and every time I finish a book (currently up to psalms), I watch the Bible Projects overview of it. Helps cement everything I read, and often see some things I might have otherwise overlooked.

So I say just keep alert, but be able to appreciate the dedication and love these guys are showing the story of the Bible 🙂
