The Bible View of Disfellowshipping & Shunning

You have to undderstand that Jw do things to the EXTREME. NO Christmas…No military service…door to door preaching is Manditory unless you have health problems. Can you see the patern of going to the extreme here?

So ofcourse Jw go to the extreem with shunning.
Now if you ask us about this we are trained to use sertain bible verses to explain this. How ever the problem is that Jw don’t always FOLLOW these bible principals. The principal that is followed is “aint know one monkey gona stop a whole curcus”.
That principal is what is followed…unless you have friends in the right places.
The point is that individuals are NOT important to the Watchtower organization, they will just get rid of you if you are not carefull.

I think we as an organization need to do less TALKING bible…and more APPLYING bible.

But then, if they take things to the extreme… why don’t they follow this one just as it is told in the Bible?
Matt 18: 8 If your hand or foot causes you to sin, 7 cut it off and throw it away. It is better for you to enter into life maimed or crippled than with two hands or two feet to be thrown into eternal fire. 9 And if your eye causes you to sin, tear it out and throw it away. It is better for you to enter into life with one eye than with two eyes to be thrown into fiery Gehenna.

They just take verses and use them to their advantage. I mean, some things they take literally and some not… ie, the 144K people, but not the Jewish virgin male stuff… They take literally the shunning part, but not the cutting off a part of your body so you don’t sin… :confused: 🤷
 
As a whole Jw’s do not twist scriptures intentionaly.
You may be talking about the governing body if anyone is responsible for changing scripture to fit there advantage.

To answer your question…we do not cut of body parts bcause it is not logical to do so.Jw’s understanding of scripture comes from reasoning with our limited minds, not from any other source.
so whatever we think is literal we take literal…whatever we think is symbolic we take that way. We do not have 2000 years of tradition or anything.

Are you a JW excaliber?

And yes, when we say JWs misinterpreting the Bible, well, we generalize since all use the misinterpretations, we all know the governing body are the ones guilty of changing the scripture.

It’s certainly not logical for a regular JW to change scripture, you’d get in a whole lot of trouble for doing so.

Oh, and the 2000 years of tradition, well, you must mean history and Tradition. Tradition with a capital “T” is very different from tradition with a lower case “t”.

I was born and raised jw. I pioneered …served at bethel…the whole nine yards.

Im still a jw, I can’t go to rica right now but I want to learn about catholics because I am not sure if the watchtower paints an accurate
picture of catholics.

Well, you have come to the right place! And I know for sure that the JWs don’t tell accurate information about the Catholic Church. I attended JW meetings for over a yr w/my husband (who is a JW) and the entire time I attended, nothing nice was said about Catholicism. Let me tell you though, that Catholicism is a beautiful faith!

I don’t know if you are against speaking to ex-JWs online, but there are many here that can tell you their stories of how and why they came home to the Catholic Church!

May I dare ask why you cannot attend RCIA?

Have you ever heard of www.catholicxjw.com ? Jeff Schwehm is a member here on the forums and he has an apostolate geared toward JWs exploring the Catholic Church, for ex-JWs, for people who have JW friends or family members. He’s full of very valuable information! He also served at bethel, pioneered and did many other things while he was a JW.

CATHOLICISM AND FUNDAMENTALISM by Karl Keating
WORTHY IS THE LAMB - The Biblical Roots of the Mass
by Thomas J. Nash (be sure you get the one by Thomas Nash cuz there are many books out called Worthy is the Lamb).
and CATHOLIC FOR A REASON, volumes I, II, and III.

All three of these books would be extremely helpful to you in understanding the Catholic Faith. Be sure and visit Jeff Schwehm’s website that yessissian provided, too. Great and accurate articles there.

a JW who serves at the World Headquarters printing facility in Brooklyn or Patterson NY called Bethel. (Or other printing facilities in other parts of the world–all called Bethels.)

Hi thanks for recomending the books. I served at wallkill bethel in new york…everybody always forgets about us at wallkill…LOL

I walked by the president but I meet a lot of G.B.
 
I remember that bethelites were constantly being “DF’d”. because it was announced not just at there congregation…but also at morning worship for all of bethel to hear.
I have not been on a judicial committee,so I can’t speak at leangth about how these matters were handeld

I am aware of how these are treated however.

for “unrepentant wrongdoing”–it is a long list. actually even in some cases if you are “repentant” if it caused scandal (enough other people knew about it)–which it would if you were a Bethelite.
I personally knew of a few homosexual affairs and one resulted in a suicide. But it could be defying or questioning the elders about anything, did not have to be sensational.
Incidentally, Bethelites are assigned to local congregations. They still have to go to all the meetings besides their life at Bethel.
