So today my bil and his wife are getting confirmed in the Catholic faith! I am going to be a sponser. This is a joyous day, and I am asking your prayers for them.
This is made harder by the fact that both of the families are not Catholic, and hers is quite anti-Catholic. Both families have refused to attend. I will be there and my oldest son, plus my mother decided she wanted to come and be supportive for them, but while it is a joyous occasion I know they are saddened by the families reaction.

Sending prayers their way!

May God grant them strength and many graces as they begin this new stage of their Christian walk and may He be their consolation in their sorrows over family divisions and disapproval.

Best wishes,
Christine

Well, they are the ones who will miss out! Best of everything to you, and may the gifts of the Holy Spirit be evident in you all.

Boy can I identify! I was the first Protestant to come into the Church in my family. My daughter followed a year later. No one else has converted since. My husband & son were present for both Confirmations, but no other family members wanted to be there. I will pray for you all today. I’ve been Catholic since 2004, and it is all the more precious to me with each passing year because I had to fight so hard to become Catholic. God’s blessings on you all!
👍

I guess I was wrong, they are still being confirmed at the Easter Vigil.
I am not sure what we went to today actually. I’ll be calling up my DRE aunt to ask. We went to the cathedral and the Archbishop was there, they called everyone down, first those who are going to be baptised, then the ones who are going to be confirmed. But they did not baptise or confirm anyone, just accepted them as iniates. I have never seen this done, but then again I don’t know too many converts, so maybe this is normal?

Yes, this is called the Rite of the Elect. But still, congratulations to your BIL and his wife on their confirmation. The last thee Sundays of Lent (?) will involve what are called Scrutinies which means they are prayed over as they get closer to Easter Vigil.

Yes, this was the Call to Continuing Conversion. (The Rite of Election was for people who will be baptized at the Easter Vigil.) They have now completed their Catechism classes and are moving on to the Lenten period in which they will make the faith their own through various retreat experiences. At some point during this season they will also make their First Confession, to prepare for Confirmation and First Holy Communion.

It’s an important step - congratulations!! 🙂

Whoops. Thanks for the correction. (It’s been a while since I helped with RCIA)

Thanks, I enjoyed the service.

It’s nice to learn something new about the Church.
