Well, how do you pronounce it? Don’t check the dictionary until after; I want to know how you actually pronounce it.

I guess it pays to speak English as a second language. The first time I encountered this word (years ago), I checked my dictionary, it gave me ‘sizm’, and that was that. But everyone around me says ‘skizm’, which is an acceptable pronunciation.

Blessings, zdon

I’ve already taken plenty of Greek. I know how to pronounce it! 🙂

How do you pronounce zdon? 🙂

Is there an entry on Wikipedia for “Wikipedia”? If so, just edit it to reflect the new spelling. That’s probably what everybody else does.
I should also edit the one for Schism so that I’m right and Mark is wrong 😃

Great idea! 😃

But as an English word, you would say it…how?

I notice that ‘skizm’ has far outstripped ‘sizm’ since my last post. EEK! My pronunciation is being rendered obsolete!:crying::dts:

We’re not meant to ‘disclose’ our forum identities, are we? Well, I don’t mind.🙂
It stands for my Chinese name, ‘Zhengyang Dong’. Now, back to the topic…

‘Skizm’ is ounumbering ‘Sizm’! This isn’t just schism, this is (solecistic) heresy! Arise, Daniel Jones, and avenge us!:knight2::knight1:

The word is Greek in origin so, I too use the Greek pronunciation. However, it actually entered English by way of Old French scisme hence, I suspect, the existence of the pronunciation with soft c.
