This is an extention of this thread, however please post here, I wasn’t getting enough responses on the other forum. Thanks.

Since faith is a gift to the intellect, then the binding and loosing by the Holy Orthodox position is akin to, “I know how nuclear fusion works, therefore I am able to control any fusion reaction by my intellect.” In regards to the Apostles, Peter was the source of their binding and loosing as is Jesus Christ is the source of salvation. Christ could not have said, “Peter’s confession is the reason you guys have binding and loosing power,” for that would be silly. Rather, because of Peter’s ability to infallibly convey the Truth to Christ and to his fellow Apostles, the Apostles draw their authority from Peter. When they are in union with him, the Apostles are able to receive and submit the infallible Truth. When they are outside that communion, they no longer are able to receive and submit the infallible Truth because they lost the source. The sun shines brightly and burns ever so hot because the source is the fusing of hydrogen at the core. Disconnect the core from the sun, and the sun ceases to be the sun.

holdencaulfield,

I think the problem is that there were already two active threads on this subject when you posted it. As one of those died out, there are now three.

I linked you to those other threads, which contained all sorts of information. I think perhaps folks didn’t respond because I and several others linked you to a great deal of information. 🙂

See my post #4 in the old thread for these links.

Good point, one of the arguments I used was similar. I said:

The Roman Catholic Church is symbolic of the Early Church. The Pope (St. Peter) and the Cardinals/Ecumenical Councils (the Apostles) are the way the Church is meant to rule and continues to do so today.

The Orthodox Church only rules with Patriarchs/Ecumenical Councils (the Apostles) and is a Church that rules the way it was not supposed to.
