Before I start, I want to say that I completely 100%oppose FOCA.

However, I’ve wondered why bishops are making such a political rally cry to oppose FOCA. From where I sit, they need to clean their own house first and lobby the government second.

There are so many Catholics who are pro-choice it is sickening. I truly believe if we had more priests & bishops speak out against abortion at Mass & in homilies, then our politicians & laity would be pro-life. To me, there is a deafening silence coming from our Church on this issue. I go to Mass everyday and I never hear prayers to stop abortions.

How much more powerful would it be if we offered petitions up to God every day at every Mass to stop this atrocity than to lobby a bunch of pro-choice Catholic politicians? The priests & the bishops have the power to stop this, they are just chosing the wrong venue for it.

Because FOCA is wrong.

You’ve got something important to say about what seems to be a widespread laxity of faith among Catholics, but if the Church waits until her shepherds are perfect before she acts, the Church will never accomplish anything.

Now that you mention it, I’ve not heard the term “abortion” mentioned at my church at all.

That is sad.

We are blessed to have a Pastor who is not afraid to preach about the evils of abortion and more importantly to inform parishioners of the problem with voting for pro-abortion canidates. Even more refreshing was a visiting Priest 3 weeks ago who told the congregation if they voted for Obama they had commited a mortal sin.

As far the OP -I am pleased to see the Bishops vigorously fight FOCA. The problem I see is that even if FOCA is defated we still have the most pro-abortion Preside nt and congress in the nations history-we can not rest on our luarels if FOCA is defeated-the new administration is about to unleash unspeakeable evil on the country FOCA or not.
