Human ingenuity has fitted black boxes to aeroplanes - these survive even when the plane crashes and no longer functions or exists - imho God in His ingenuity has fitted humans with black boxes that record - so it seems this behoves us to see and hear and record only the good and beautiful etc for play back time and even in our lifetime - any comments - twinc

Here is what I have always wondered…

Since human ingenuity has designed these black boxes to survive pretty much any airplane catastrophe, and these black boxes function after these tragedies…WHY are airplanes made out of black boxes?!?

Why aren’t airplanes made to glide at slow speeds so they don’t need to crash.

Some executive probably said it would cost too much…this is why Boeing decided to roll out their new Styrofoam passenger liner.

5 out of 6 executives approved this design to minimize wreckage after a crash since the jet fuel and Styrofoam would act as a sort of napalm that would consume any pesky debris including passengers.

@OP: You forgot to add sometime the black boxes are lost.😃

  1. An aircraft made as solidly as the BB would be too heavy to leave the ground.
2). Our Human Bodies are far more flimsy than electronics; even if the airframe around you resisted the impact, the sheer physical force would still be life-ending 😦

Because moving really fast is the whole point of flight. And there’s no way to shed that speed on the way down.

I wouldn’t want anyone looking at most of what’s on my black box.

Thank God for confession.

Ever see the little birds that fold away their wings to dive fast then spread their wings at the end of the dive and slow to a short glide to a branch or whatever.

Actually that “might” work, if you used 4 -5 of those big chutes used for lowering army tanks, and pyrotechnics to deploy them, as the Apollo capsules did. I still doubt this would work well at Mach 0.9, though.

They’d have to remove the in flight wifi and get rid of the free peanuts to make room for all the safety gear.

I’m in the Information Technology industry and I can make your computer network un-hackable. I just unplug all of the equipment and there isn’t a hacker in the world who can break in.

Same sort of deal with planes, and anything else. At a certain point you make it so safe that no one wants to use it. A plane that no one uses is pretty safe. Sounds like a government program to me. 😃

Sure and that works if one is made of skin and feathers, but not when made of steel.

Anyway, they only go fast while diving. Our jets go fast on the level, and then faster still on the way down.

It’s a filthy shame then that often the human BB is wrecked before the physical body: head injury, AD, etc.

There was a movie called “Final Cut” in which parents had the option of having a recording device planted in their children before they were born. The recorders would track everything they saw and heard, even in their dreams. When the child grew up and died they had a record of the person’s memories by which to remember them. Though most people would usually have the memories professionally edited to make the person look much better and to erase the negative parts about the person.

Interesting. Why would parents care to do this? Parents don’t expect their children to die before them, therefore to need to “remember them.”. Wouldn’t they have done better to place the recording mechanism in their own head, so the children would have a recrd of at least their deceased parents’ adult life?

They did it for the benefit of the child’s ancestors. Though there were a few cases when the child died before the parents. The recording mechanism had to be implanted before birth while the child was forming in utero. The child usually didn’t know they had such a device in their head until they became a certain age. Finding out there was a record of everything you had said and done was stressful for some.
