I was wondering too, what denomination if any actually teaches that if you say aloud “I deny the Holy Spirit” that your sin is unforgivable and you are eternally damned?
Probably none that anyone else takes seriously. For Catholicism at least, holding to that would totally negate the idea of baptism of desire, so it’s a no go as far as you’re concerned.
An atheist thinks he is superior to a believer and we have seen the results of hard-core atheists attaining power in Histoy.
Some atheists think that; don’t tar all us non-theists with that overly-wide brush of yours. As to the latter part… please don’t start that again.

You are right, my apologies. I was thinking of specific atheists (like the ones behind the webstie) when I made that statement and shouldn’t generalize that attitude towards all.

Clearly these people are hardening their hearts, but they are not as they think damning themselves to Hell by this action alone. It is a sin, but it is not unforgivable. Basically it is impossible to blaspheme the Holy Spirit if you don’t believe in him because your ignorant. Blaspheming the Holy Spirit is basically the criteria on which we are judged as a whole, to rebel against what we know is true with full conscience and to exalt ourselves as God. It is based on what is in your soul, it’s final eternal decision. Yes, whether you die in Mortal Sin or not will determine your fate, but this is not up to chance, it is guided by God’s providence, and no one who would ever repent will be damned. Basically this is why those who are damned to Hell will actually want to go there, they will not be repentent even in Hell, and they will understand that justice demands Hell and that God has been completely fair with them.

I just pray that anyone who actually takes part in this realizes that they can be forgiven and accpeted by God and not feel as if they have permanently doomed themselves if they later realize the truth that God does exist. Also I think we should realize that some of this type of behavior has it’s roots in the non-Christian behavior of Christian’s influencing people’s opinion of Christianity.
I agree that these people are somewhat protected by the law of “invinceable ignorance”, but my personal feeling is that the majority who outright despise religion - namely Christianity are nothing more than Satantists hiding behind the title of atheist - just like Karl Marx was.

Well, to say “there is no God” in a de facto way makes mankind to be the supreme beings unless your worshipping something else, believe in Aliens, or think that dogs and stuff are equal to humans. But I wouldn’t go as far as what your saying, many despise religion because of their misconception of it which many times is the result of the behaviour of the religious.

Karl Marx wasn’t a Satanist. Frederick the Great was, but Karl Marx didn’t have it in him. He was a mid-Victorian dupe, so thoroughly a product of that era–nothing was more Victorian than a mind-numbingly pedantic German-Jewish scholar spending all his time in England. He spent too much time in Britain, listening to the most unreal politics on the planet (I think South Korea has since taken that title). That’s why everything he says is such complete dreck. The “religion is the opiate of the masses” was just the fashionable idea in England at the time (I think just before the Oxford movement).

Marx honestly was not the kind of man who *could *worship Satan. He was the kind of man Satan used, without his ever being the wiser. Not like Neitzsche, or Frederick the Great. Those (one a Pole who did his work in German, the other a German who did his work in French) were Satan’s kind of people. Marx was just an unworldly pedant with no sound philosophy, and of such clay are Satan’s favored puppets made.

Yep, I heard of this. Hey, everyone has free will and if these folks want to doom themselves for eternity there is not much we can do about it. Prayer will not help those who have already taken this “pledge of denial” - it is too late for them. We can only pray that others who are thinking of denying The Holy Spirit do not do so.

Actually your wrong. It is not too late for them and they are not doomed for eternity. Blaspheming againts the Holy Spirit in the sense Jesus used is not merely a verbal utterance. If these people were to repent and become part of the Church are you suggesting that the sacraments would be powerless to help them? If you want to make such an outlandish claim please support it with some kind of teaching from the Church.

How do you get Frederick II or Nietzsche as Satanists? I’m not all that familiar with Frederick, but Nietzsche was simply non-theist. His association with the Third Reich was fabricated after his death by his Nazi sister, who compiled a book, Der Wille zur Macht, out of distorted and out-of-context quotes to make him seem nationalist (he wasn’t) and anti-Semitic (again, he wasn’t).

Also interesting to note: The bible took FOREVER to catch fire but would quickly die out until he gave up - the Quran caught fire in about 10 seconds, died out caught again, died and then burned continously. Wonder if that means anything?
Wow, that IS interesting to note!

I haven’t seen the videos with my own eyes, though. To be honest, it makes me sick to see people blaspheming.

Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but it will get worse before it gets better.

Well, perhaps you might be right. But it would be true if it was indeed meant as just a verbal utterance. I personally wouldn’t take any chances. Just checked the Catechism #1864,… “but if anyone delierately refuses to accept his mercy by repenting, rejects the forgiveness of his sins and the salvation of the Holy Spirit”. Sounds like if they die before doing this they are definitely cooked! Well, another one that will be addressed on Judgement Day.

Thing is, you can’t commit blasphemy against something you don’t believe exists. What they’re saying in the videos (‘I deny the holy spirit’) isn’t blasphemy; all they’re saying is that they happen to be atheists.

That’s true. Nice Observation! Isn’t it odd they are denying something they already believe to be false? They might commit a sin if they do believe in God and do this, but doing what they do in those videos are rather childish and redundant. Come on, God isn’t stupid to think these people are blaspheming Him and will give them a free no-expenses ride to Hell as a result…

I didn’t watch it, nor do I intend to…

With that said, SOMEONE should do the SAME thing but in AFFIRMATION of the Trinity.
What a great idea! In fact, I asked around and a few of my friends said they’d help me out. I’m thinking we’d all say the Nicaean(sp?) or Apostle’s creed. Would anyone here be interested in doing something similar?

There is a group that has been started to counteract this. It’s called Challenge Blasphemy. Here’s their site:

Teen_Catholic i will pray for you! It seems each generation has it’s own challenges and trials, but yours is the most intense so far. Keep up the witness and you are encouragement!

This is very sad:( but much worse is to come.

If the world hate you, know ye, that it hath hated me before you. John 15:18:gopray:

Let’s get our umbrellas open then…The storm is growing strong and we need to stay on our feet… 🙂

The Rational Response Squad is giving away 1001 DVDs of The God Who Wasn’t There, the hit documentary that the Los Angeles Times calls “provocative – to put it mildly.”

There’s only one catch: We want your soul.

It’s simple. You record a short message damning yourself to Hell, you upload it to YouTube, and then the Rational Response Squad will send you a free The God Who Wasn’t There DVD. It’s that easy.

INSTRUCTIONS:
You may damn yourself to Hell however you would like, but somewhere in your video you must say this phrase: “I deny the Holy Spirit.”

Why? Because, according to Mark 3:29 in the Holy Bible, “Whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit will never be forgiven; he is guilty of an eternal sin.” Jesus will forgive you for just about anything, but he won’t forgive you for denying the existence of the Holy Spirit. Ever. This is a one-way road you’re taking here.

Once you have shot your blasphemous video, just follow these two easy steps:
  1. Go to this link on YouTube to upload your video as a “Video Response” to the Blasphemy Challenge. (You can log in or register on that page if necessary.) Please put the URL blasphemychallenge.com somewhere in the text description when you upload your video.
  2. When the video appears on YouTube, send the URL to this email address: waronchristmas@hotmail.com. Also include a complete United States mailing address* so we can send your free copy of The God Who Wasn’t There.

How can we reach the hearts of our brothers and sisters this Lent? Please pray for them!
