While I think this is disgusting on many levels, there are different schools of thought about what “blasphemes the Holy Spirit” means. Some say it simple means to deny the Holy Spirit. Others say that it is to declare the Spirit evil. Still others say that this unforgivable sin is actually a sin where you refuse to ask for forgiveness (the irreverence of limiting God’s mercy). And others say that it is “cursing” God.

However, I definitely think this is atrocious. I will pray for everyone involved.

This is awful.

There’s a good fox news interview with the guy behind it on YouTube.

These people don’t know what they are doing.

But Satan does. 😦 😦 😦

This has been posted before. Denial is not blasphemy; were it, the Church would not have its doctrine of baptism of desire. This is just pointless arrogance (and I say that as an agnostic 😛 ).

Once again militant non-believers resemble fundamentalist Christians with their wooden Sola Scriptura view of the Bible.

Wow, expensive DVD… The Rational Response Squad sounds like a tolerant, light-hearted group.

Two thoughts come to mind:
Code:
"Father, forgive them, they know not what they do."
                                            &
"Oh, blood & water, which gushes forth from the heart of Jesus as a font of mercy for us, I trust in You. Jesus, I trust in You."

There’s got to be a way to stop this atrocity. It’s really sickening.

More than a year later and the responses among Atheists continue. And what’s this all for? Just to get that free t-shirt they were promised? And another thing, where are all the defenders of the faith? Perhaps they’re outnumbered, but I expected to see a lot more video responses from Christians, and even compassionate Atheists.

Isn’t there anything we can do to stop it? If enough people send YouTube emails and letters, maybe they’ll put an end to it. They can ban or remove any material they wish to. I don’t know how the owners can sit back and watch their website be used for such hatred.

I sure hope not.

You see, we live in this place called America, which was founded on the idea of freedom of expression (amongst other things). And while it’s true that things like the First Amendment only prohibit the government from making things such as the Blasphemy Challenge illegal, most of us have come to realize that we should apply the same principles of freedom of expression in other contexts.

The idea behind You Tube is to “broadcast yourself.” It’s intended as a platform for everyone to use to broadcast pretty much whatever they want. For some reason you think that these people shouldn’t be able to broadcast their beliefs (or non-beliefs really). Perhaps they think that you shouldn’t be allowed to broadcast your beliefs. Now we’d have a situation where you’re both trying to silence each other. Most of us have come to believe that a free exchange of ideas is better than everyone trying to censor everyone else. But apparently not everyone.

Never heard of it, never seen it, and guess what? I don’t care to. The best way to stop these things are to ignore it. They have every right to do what they want, within the law, to exercise their free speech. That doesn’t mean I have to see it, or be offended by it. And it’s probably a waste of time and energy to worry about it.

Just a thought, maybe the defenders of the faith don’t hang out in places like youtube. I find it so strange when I see Catholics complain about places that they shouldn’t even be any part of in the first place. Don’t watch youtubes by people you know you won’t like. It’s very simple.

Not only is the Blasphemy Challenge still running rampant on YouTube, but the Faith Challenge is still running rampant on GodTube. :crying:

One of the best aspects of youtube is that you can ignore the stupid things that are offensive. 👍

To the OP: I would suggest simply praying for the individuals taking part in the Blasphemy Challange. The idea behind it is immature and believe it or not, most individuals see it as so. The people running this particular youtube do not help their cause by being purposefully offensive to others.

Who cares, let them do it, they aren’t even committing blasphemy anyways.

Which goes to show the great exegetes in the ‘rational response squad’ - I think frankly it’s hilarious. Not only do they implicitly imply that all Christians are irrational (which puts pretty much all the greatest thinkers in philosophy, science and mathematics in there), but they didn’t even understand what ‘blasphemy against the holy spirit was’ - you can’t just say ‘i deny the holy spirit’ and be blasphemous and unforgivable.

Starting to debate with people who commit logical fallacies in their questions and statements is getting no where.

This behaviour has to stop. Pray that the Merciful Lord will make them see the error of their ways.

Come Holy Spirit fill the hearts of the Faithful and Kindle in them the fire of your Love.

A quote from that thread:
These people don’t know what they are doing.

I don’t see what satan got to do with this ??
I’m a Non Believer , and believe me ,
I don’t & won’t worship satan !!

Thing is, you can’t commit blasphemy against something you don’t believe exists.
It’s even , there is no proof of existance ,
so blasphemy is non-existed !!
Until now , nobody could give proof of existance !!
What they’re saying in the videos (‘I deny the holy spirit’) isn’t blasphemy; all they’re saying is that they happen to be atheists.
Call it freedom of speech (F.O.S.) 😉
Look , I don’t approve freedom of vomit ,
but F.O.S. is something completely different 🙂
The problem is , where stops the F.O.S. ??
What some will call F.O.S. ,
others will call it words of vomit !!
Actually the existence of this video makes atheist look bad.

I am a Christian but I attempt to be respectful of the beliefs of others. This is something that I do out of a sense of common deceny and respect for others.

The fact that a bunch of Atheist do not have the ability to peacefully exist with the religious beliefs of others makes atheisim seem intolerant and prejudiced.
Well , I agree !!
But you know , there are also believers
who are intollerant and prejudiced !!
It seems you’ve got to blindly following
their ways , just like that !!

Anyway , I won’t buy such DVD’s !! Why ??
I don’t waste my money pointless !!
But if I’ve got a chance to watch it on TV-broadcast ,
I will do it !! Why ??
I have to watch it before I can make my judgement !!

I have even seen a movie about a guy
who committed church arsons !!
Anyone who approve such things is a nuthead !!
That guy was convicted for murder of
an earlier fellow & church arson !!
No thanks , such things are not my cup of tea !!

Salute & Cheers from a NON BELIEVER:

watching even one clip made me sick to my stomach. These are the same kind of people who argue that christians should be locked up because they are crazy. We should pray for them even as they prey on us

Yeah, after watching that it is pretty bad. Everyone knows about the militant evangelica, the militant Christian, yet you never really hear about the militant atheist. Its a shame these guys don’t get more play really, as spiteful as it is it hurts their image more than ours. Sure, they’d rile up a bunch of us, but in the end (from some points of view) it sure would be nice to knock them off their faulty pedestal of vaunted acceptance. It sure isn’t showing here.

I suppose I’m not being fair to the non-believers among us. Really this is a two way street and for every one of these boys who try and take shots at us one of ours is going at them. Zeal is double edged sword…

I do wonder what would happen if we Christians suddenly appeared in front of a University and film a video damning and calling Charles Darwin, Karl Marx, and others bad names, try to burn any of their works in public, etc. We’ll be taken down and labeled as ‘Intolerant’ and ‘Bigoted’ and we will be arrested for ‘Hate Crime’ and such. We’ll be in front of the Newspapers and we’ll stir a massive controversy.
I had a friend in grad school that ripped up and threw away a copy of Das Kapital and nobody seemed too particularly concerned.
