I know there are a lot of prayers out there regarding the Blessed Sacrament, but is there any one important prayer to be prayed when visiting the Blessed Sacrament?

If you attend Benediction there will be certain prayers which are traditionally used, and these can be a good starting point for personal prayer. There are lots of different prayers addressed to Our Lord in the Blessed Sacrament, some very ancient. The prayers you use though are entirely up to you. Sometimes the best prayer can be to just sit/kneel in silence, adoring Our Lord and allowing Our Lord to speak to you in the silence of the heart.

If it’s something new for you, maybe you could start with something like the Anima Christi (Soul of Christ) prayer, saying it slowly and meditating on each line.

Whatever prayer you use, enjoy that special time with Our Lord and try to do it often.

When I visited the Blessed Sacrament with my sponsor, we prayed Our Father, Hail Mary and Glory Be. However, I’m not absolutely sure what you’re supposed to do when you visit the Sacrament but I hope my answer helps you even a bit.

Your prayer is the one important prayer.

Go, and pray your heart out.
Worship, give thanks, and speak to Him who loves you.

God bless.

If you have the time, you could make a Holy Hour before the Blessed Sacrament. There are various ways in which this can be done, and there are many helpful resources available online to help you find a structure for your prayers. Some prayer books contain guidelines for making a Holy Hour. For example, one such guideline in my prayer book focuses on adoration, atonement, thanksgiving, and petition each for 15 minutes while meditating on Christ’s Agony in the Garden. Such a Holy Hour includes both structured prayers as well as time for quiet meditation. One could also choose make a Holy Hour for a specific purpose. Two examples would be a Holy Hour of Reparation to the Sacred and Immaculate Hearts and a Holy Hour for Vocations.

Of course, if you don’t have time for an entire hour, there are plenty of prayers composed explicitly for the adoration of Our Lord in the Blessed Sacrament. I would direct you towards the timeless and beautiful prayers to the Blessed Sacrament written by St. Alphonsus Ligouri and St. Thomas Aquinas. Between prayers, be sure to take time to adore Our Lord in mental silence and stillness, always open to His voice.

My answer would be…what would you say to Jesus if he were standing right in front of you?

I say many personal prayer intentions and just converse with Jesus. Sometimes I just sit and feel His Presence come over me. In our Adoration chapel there is a prayer basket and I usually will write prayers on a slip of paper. There are books on the Eucharistic Hour which have prayers and stories about the Eucharist that you can read while there also that I really like while you are before the Blessed Sacrament.

This is how I was taught to pray in front of the Blessed Sacrament.

***Lord Jesus Christ,
Thank you.
Amen. ***
