Here in Mexico, lay people frequently touch the monstrance. I always thought that was a sacrilege, isn’t it?
 
It’s not, if done with reverence. After all, we are allowed to touch the Blessed Sacrament and that isn’t even sacrilege. We do this during some youth retreats in my parish during adoration. It is a very powerful experience that has resulted in many conversions.

I was taken aback here when I saw that happen for the first time. I’ve only ever seen the same elderly lady do this. She’s been going to our Church for decades longer than I have and no one ever blinks an eye when she does it so I eventually just overcame my shock.

To me it’s strange but to them it’s a sincere act of love.
 
I’m confused as to why anyone would be shocked by this. There is a clear precedent in Matthew 9:20.
 
My previous pastor would often invite to people to come forward to reverently touch the base of the Monstrance and silently pray the private intention for a few seconds.

This is done in my Parish as well with every Exposition.
 
No one does it in my parish, but I did see the host in the Monstrance glow - which surprised me. I just think it was the sun shining through at a certain angle. If it was anything else, other people would have been talking about it.

The chapel is small and we are familiar with who is there for Adoration.
