ummm , don’t want to give any such fatwa . It’s safe & better not to do this .

related link : Pictural Images of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH)

Dr. Muzammil H. Siddiqi, former President of the Islamic Society of North America, states:

"Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade his followers to make the images of living beings whether human or animals. The images of pious and religious figures were often worshiped by many people in Arabia as well as in other cultures and societies.

Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) was very conscious that these images lead to idolatry. He always wanted to remind his followers to keep their faith in Allah pure from any idolatry or image worship.

… Heaven was not yet open to man.
I remember a verse of Bible that says Prophet Elijah (p) or …I forgot the name …went to heaven directly.
The earliest representation of the Madonna and Child may be the wall painting in the Catacomb of Priscilla, Rome, dated the second century.
So , during the time of Jesus or Mary (pbut ) , Christians did not practise such rituals ( make statues , bow in front of statue etc ). Why then today’s Catholics think it’s important to do so ? If Jesus (p) prayed to God directly , why his followers are not doing it?

I believe you are referring to Elias; ‘Who wast taken up in a whirlwind of fire, in a chariot of fiery horses.’

Elias was taken up into the air, or atmosphere if you prefer.

‘Drop down dew, ye heavens, from above, and let the clouds rain the just: let the earth be opened, and bud forth a saviour: and let justice spring up together: I the Lord have created him.’

Your first sentence:
We don’t know that they did not create artwork. We only know of the current earliest artwork finds dated to the first century, the Apostles lived in the first century. There are very early Christian Church-building remains currently being excavated, some have mosaic floors etc…

For your second sentence:
Having sacred art is very important for the same reason as having an education is very important to you. I could, if you like, perform a mind-wipe on you and erase your reading skills. I could also take all your money so that you could not afford to be taught to read again. But I won’t. But I could.
You would find, now, that for you the most accessable way to learn about this faith is to see it and experience it with the eyes and ears God gave you. You may walk into your Church, it may be empty, but straight away on the walls of the Church you will see the story of Gods plan of salvation for you. You cannot read, but thats ok, everyone can read an image, as they say a picture speaks a thousand words. Sacred art is Sacred scripture in a visual format - which incidently, was the format in which most of Sacred Scripture/Tradition was initially experienced by the Apostles, the writers of Sacred Scripture. The Apostles did not read about what they were doing, they lived the experience and saw it, visually, with their eyes, as a series of images in real time, so to speak.

For your last sentence:
His followers do pray to God directly, in fact, they pray directly to God Exactly as Jesus did, with the very exact same words Jesus used when He prayed to God… Our Father, who art in heaven…etc.
In Catholicism we just do not like to ignore His friends, some people ignore them, but seeing as we are all family we will acknowledge their presence in heaven and ask them to pray to God for us also.

I heard that in Iran , some artists draw images of Prophet Muhammed (p) . Don’t know how they do it ’ cause Prophet’s photograph is not available . Also , to avoid the major sin that some Muslims may start worshipping the image of the Prophet , **it’s safe not to draw picture of the Prophet **. Also , in Islam , it’s not encourged to draw picture of living being .
Curious? - Muslim woman…

Where is it written in the koran that “one cannot draw/sketch a picture of mohamad” and also where in the koran is it written that "one cannot draw a picture of a living being".

Thanks!

God warned believers in holy Quran & other major holy books not to take other diety besides Him . Making statue / draw image of living being may lead people to idol worshipping .

So , as a pre-caution , Prophet Muhammed (pbuh) forbade to make statue ; put image of any living being inside the house etc .

Does that include pictures of family and friends? 🙂

Prophet (pbuh) said , angels don’t enter one’s house if there is picture of living being . So , I did not hang any picture of us on wall ; I try to find Calendar that has Arabic Calligraphy or flowers , hills etc 🙂

While praying , we must be careful so that no big size photoes are in front of us ; that may distract attention from remembering God .

urrrm I have to check if there is any restriction on flowers. Then I will only use Arabic calligraphy 🙂

to my knowledge , image of human being , animals – these are restricted , no ban on flowers.

Jakasaki’s original question was where in the qur’an, not for you to explain it.

Are you able to provide the verses in the qur’an for the TWO claims? I’m sure you weren’t deliberately evading answering, just an oversight. 😉

Thank you.

Do Muslims have any comments regarding the content of the videos mentioned in the fist post?

Any comments on the fact the the Blessed Virgin has appeared to Muslims in apparitions? Any comments on the prophecies of the saints which talk of the Virgin leading the poor followers of Mohammed to the truth about her Blessed and Divine son?
